    Price of DDR2

I purchased some 4Gb DDR 6400 ram sticks back in Feb and have been looking to purchase some more this week.
What's going on!!? It is really difficult to find any 4Gb sticks and where they are available they are now nearly twice the price

There appears to be something of a global shortage. Have manufacturers stopped producing DDR2 in favour of DDR3 for the i7 and recent i5? Is DDR2 availability now based on current stock only?

DDR2 is definitely going up in price although you should be still able to get 4gb of PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM for under £45:

    Re: Price of DDR2

I read on The Inquirer yesterday that DDR2 is set to rise in price and DDR3 is set to fall closer to the price of DDR2, although i didn't understand the figures stated.

    That's good - but I want 4Gb per stick - so either 8Gb (2 x 4Gb) or 16Gb kits (4 x 4Gb)

    Re: Price of DDR2

I was watching Bloomberg yesterday and Elpida was saying that the margins in DDR2 were better than DDR3 as the majority of manufacturers were producing DDR3 now. Elpida being one of the few still producing DDR2.

4gb DDR2 sticks have always been expensive as they are a niche product and hence companies can pretty much charge what they want.

    Re: Price of DDR2

I still have a pair of decent, brand new DDR2 modules for sale for much less than list price if anyone is interested:

Not allowed into the classifieds yet (post count needs to be 100+). They are no use to me unless they are 2x4GB anyway

    Re: Price of DDR2

As CAT said anything over 2gb per stick is far more pricey as the demand if far lower.

On a side note: 2nd hand 1gb sticks are real cheap, I picked up 4x1gb OCZ reaper for under £25
