Help! AMD Phenom II 955 running at 800mhz!

Evening all.

I just ran one of those cpu speed testers and it says that my amd phenom II 955 quad core etc. processor is running at 800mhz. its supposed to do like 3.2ghz right?

I have the am3 sapphire motherboard, 4gigs of ram, its a new pc (although i built it so maybe a problem there???) its just a shame to think of all that wasted power...

AMD cool 'n quiet, underclocks the processor when not under load, to save you pennies on your electricity bill

Stick it under load (i.e. orthos etc) and it should return to the full fat energy hog

go into any graphically intensive game, edit some videos and the multiplier will bump it up to full speed

TAKTAK means to run a CPU intensive task on the computer. Try OCCT for example.

You could try rendering a Moose or even a Panda!! I would first run CPU-Z and then run an intensive task in the background such as OCCT.

BTW,TAKTAK I like your Panda picture!! If only Pandas with top hats actually existed in zoos!!

CPU-Z will show you the clock-speed as it changes.

i have a logitech g15 2007 version and i want to have the thing work with googlemail (the popups)
it doesnt seem to be able to do it! frustrating cause its the only email i have

any1 know how to do it?

I will look out for them! Also if you happen to be in Scotland or Canadia beware of the cliffs as these are prime plummeting spots for Moose as they try to become one with gravity!

slightly back on topic (from someone whos running a phenom II system)

the cpu downclocks itself when theres not much going on, this saves power which in turn means lower electric bills, its the cool n' quiet option in the BIOS.

when you run programs, games, media player etc. then the CPU automatically speeds itself up to 3.2ghz in your case, (2.8 in mine)

using CPU-Z what you may notice it that it might not fully reach 3.2ghz, it may only do 1.6ghz then 2.4ghz, the cool n' quiet seems to pick whichever seems appropriate for the task at hand.

as long as it goes up to 3.2ghz if you load up for example, internet, word, your favourite mp3 player all at the same time, then i wouldnt worry about it anymore. just be happy that you have a Phenom II

You can turn off cool n quiet in the bios.

I would recommend turning it back on at the earliest possible oppertunity though as it is great! (seriously it will save money and generate less heat.)

The stressing is better in my opinion (running an intensive task).

i use prime95 and cpuz to check the speeds

cpuz will tell you the clock speed while prime95 will "load" your 955

Yeah the power saving features are best left on as they really make a difference. A far easier way to ramp up CPU clock is send a large file (about 100 megs so it's running for long enough) to a zip file - compression is CPU-intensive so the clock will increase.
