    Re: PC Specification HELP!!

No you cannot put ddr2 into a ddr3 slot, you could put that memory into the first system to give you 8gb

A 2nd build like the first would be fine, infact you could probably go for a lower cost motherboard like the gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P
It's only the 770 chipset so no crossfire but with a single 4870 that's not really an issue.
I'd also consider the Sapphire Vapor-X version of the 4870 it's a very good cooler and is probably a bit cheaper

Cannot say much more on costs as I don't know what it's like in the US, execpt for occaionsally looking at newegg and then I ignore the prices as the price differences can diver me mad.

    Re: PC Specification HELP!!

Yep the GA-MA770T-UD3P is a socket AM3 motherboard so uses DDR3 only
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...ProductID=3096
newegg have it for $80, $70 after rebate
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128392

All AM3 motherboards use DDR3 and the newer PhenomII based cpu's (includes the AthlonII, it's based on the same design)
most AM2+ motherboards use DDR2 and both the newer and older AMD cpu's
The same PhenomII will perform slightly better on a newer AM3 motherboard than the same AM2+ board

As to which CPU you chooss that's up to you, how much performance you want out of it and how much you're willing to spend.
The 955 is a bit pricey at $190 on newegg
The 945 95w version is probably better value at $170

    Re: PC Specification HELP!!

    Ummm

If you're asking what graphics card?
Depends what you want to do with it.
If all you are doing is running OS, office, internet, e-mail, then all you need is something very cheap and basic
Infact a motherboard with half decent onboard graphics would be best, for a good amd one the 785g or 790g chipset rather than the 770 I sugested before.
If games or 3d applications are involved then you need something a bit better

for games on a 17" screen resolution then one of the following
    ATi 4770 or 4830
nvidia 8800gt/9800gt (they are basically the same card)
All 512mb versions, 256mb is too little and 1gb is wasted on a 17" screen resolution.
All of thoes cards are so close in performance that you cannot really say one is better than another and all of them will run very well on a 17" and can cope quite well up to a 22" screen

However, I don't know what US prices are like but currently the ATi 4850 and 4870 have become very cheap over here in the UK.
The 4850 is now availible for near enough the same price as the 4770 so the 4850 would be a better buy.

Again quick look at newegg and I get annoid but the US-UK price differences
Galaxy 9800gt with nice looking aftermarket cooler $100, with rebate $80
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162028

Biostar GTS250 $125, with rebate $95 (don't know that brand)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814141097
the gts250 is a rebadged 9800gtx+ performs around the same as the ATi 4850

Gigabyte 4850 with Zalman cooler, $110, with rebate $90
