Finally got new machine up and running and im just curious as to how hot my GTX 260 is running. It looks like I would need to use somthing like Riva tuner etc to do this?

RealTemp will also show you your GPU temps.
Another vote here for GPU-z, very lightweight easy to use app. You can log your temps too so you can monitor how your card is doing during a benchmark test for example.
A third vote for GPUz it's great for checking fan speeds and temps.
Foir a real temp stress test I find FurMark be be very good.

This will stress you card and produce temps that are higher than you will get in most games.
It will push my 9800gtx to 80c when it doesn;t noramlly get much past 70c when playing games.
Had a quick 30 minutes on STALKER clear sky and it hit 70 at the most according to GPUZ. Ill see tomorrow how it does with Furmark as well. Also is there any way to alter the fan setting using the normal Nvidia control panel or do I need somthing else as it dosnt rev up at all from 40% which seems the case with all these cards.
Will depend on the card you have.
With the stock nvidia cooler you can use nTune to over rider the automatic fan speed and change it to a fixed speed.
However be warned the stock cooler fan is automatic control and rev's up for a reason, namely heat.
The stock cooler under automatic fan control will adjust the fan for a target of 60c idle and 70c load
If you lock the fan speed then it's just going to get hotter esp under load and if it gets too hot you will damage it.
You can also use Rivatuner to adjust the fan speed and set up a fan speed profile.
If it's not a stock cooler then you may or may not be able to adjust it, depends on the card and the fan used.
Using Furmark it hit just under 90 and for average gaming it stays at 80. Never seen the fan speed up over 55%. Using Rivaturner how would you go about setting up a fan speed profile? Its the stock cooler on the card as well. First time using anything like this so I apologise for any idiotic comments that will appear :)
Edit Okay followed the Rivaturner guide to set up automatic fan profile but when I get to Core temperture I dont get the threshold options to setup a adjustable fan profile. Anyone any ideas why this may be?
