    Netbook needed for other half

My wife is after a Netbook. Can anyone recommend a nice one that has approx 160gig Hard Drive, 1gig ram upgradeable to 2gig, at least a 10" display. Not sure about budget so let see what you recommend. Cheers

What about the Dell Mini 10v? Any good? Asking as the spec is almost the same but quite a bit cheaper.

The Dell is a decent choice too I suppose... I have heard the Samsung has a better keyboard but I don't think you could go wrong with either.

Also, battery life for the Samsung is outstanding.

Look for 6cell batteries for longer life, you'll find most of the cheaper ones that have simular specs often have ether 4cell or 3cell batteries.

Re: Netbook needed for other half

The NC10 is very nice, trackpad is a bit weak, but just stick on an external mouse and its much better.

The keyboard is very good, bigger than some and with proper keys, not those funny over spaced toy keys like the EeePC has.

I heard that too. Went in to my local CPW the other day to check it out (they stock both machines) and they both had pretty crappy keyboards and the NC10's trackpad is TINY!

It used to be the best choice but since then there have been netbooks released with better battery life, better keyboards and higher res screens. Samsung have even replaced it twice now, firstly with the N110 and then again with the recently released N130.

    ??
let's have a look at the NC10 and 1000H side by side shall we?

    http://www.netbooknews.de/2097/fotos...-samsung-nc10/

The keyboards are the same size, the letter keys on the 1000HE are slightly narrower to make up for the wider non-letter keys, this is a US keyboard layout.

the 1000HE keyboard is the same as newer design like the 1008HA
The macbook style keyboard see here is because it's a pre-production model
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/laptop...e-PC-1000HE/p1
(Samsung use this macbook style keyboard on the NC310)

The touch pad on the 1000HE is the same one as on the 901 and it's the best touch pad I've used on any of these netbooks so far

The 1000HE is slightly larger and heavier than the nc10, but has a better battery life by 1hour+ (8cell battery)
The NC10 beat the older eeepc's on it's far better screen but again the 1000HE has a greatly improved screen over the older models, so now they are very simular.

They are neck and neck in so many ways it's almost impossible to call between them except on very small things and on many of the small things the 1000HE edges infront.

However at the same time we have two others from Samsung worth looking at as well
    N310
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/laptop...2in-Netbook/p1
Like most of these it pritty much the same base specs
    Slightly larger than the NC10,
    However it's also slightly lighter,
However this is because of a 4 cell battery so it's not got the same running time.

    N120
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/laptop...120-Netbook/p1
This is even larger than most as it's a standard mini-laptop 12" case with a 10" screen in it
This makes for an even larger keyboard
They've also packed a 2.1 speaker system in there, which is suposed to be rated as probably the best in any netbook.

As with all of these netbook you need to decide which factors are the most important to you and go for the one which fit's it best.

It's the reason I got the eeepc901 and not the NC10, was I wanted portabitily and battery life.
The smaller keyboard on the 9" screen case is not an issue for me, but the reduced size + reduced weight + increased battery life, were the reasons the 901 was far better than the NC10 for me.

    Review
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5122

It's a slimmer design than the 1000HE but slightly larger than the 1008HA (due to the larger battery)

One thing I should note is that they all only take a single stick of ram, so you need to get a 2gb stick to replace the existing one, not add in a 2nd.

It's a shame they used to sell the Acer aspire One with only 512mb which was about £20 cheaper than the 1gb version, so the saving would help cover the cost of the 2gb stick

That said, 1gb is fine for these netbooks normally.

    Asus EEE PC 1005HA

Theres my hat into the ring. £250 with a six cell battery and I like the thought of Asus laptops (only because of teh high end ones)

And a very netbook dreary conclusion

Right Asus EE PC 1005HA is the best one so far guys! I would want to put 2gig in it. Is that easy to do with this model?

    Another review

You might want to scrutinize the camera a bit and not sure you can turn it into a fully functional hackintosh!

Video on how to upgrade ram (might be in french! can't check at work) and check all the details; I am in a hurry!

P.S. I would give Pob some thankyou love; he has always been really helpful to me as well.

Asus EE PC 1005HA looks a great netbook. Is it easy to upgrade the ram? If you were given £250 to only spend on a netbook which one would you get?
