Reliable USB cable for WD Passport
I've got a couple of those 2.5" drives, hooked to an USB hub. I've lost one of the supplied cable, and it seems that the cable I've been using as a substitute is having trouble carrying enough power to the drive. It barely gets enough power to spin up, sometime it just switch itself on half way on before powering down. Somehow I can get around it by reconnecting the cable. Still, I doubt it's particularly healthy for the drive, even though once it's on, it tends to stay on for long period of time (mostly as long as I need it to).
So I am now wondering where I can get a decent USB cable (USB to USB mini) for the job. I am not expecting to pay a quid for it, but nor am I expecting to pay £5 for a short USB cable.
Any recommendations?
Re: Reliable USB cable for WD Passport
Most USB -> USB mini cables are only rated for USB1.1 speeds and are really thin and flexible.
I would say that any 'thick' USB cable would work.
I don't have any specific recommendations, but you should be able to find something cheap fairly easily.
Re: Reliable USB cable for WD Passport
My cable is definitely USB 2.0. It's not really poundland extension cord thin, I think it's about the same as the WD ones, but more flexible (fragile?) and twice as long (not -that- long). Maybe it's just a little worn.
