good laptop for ~£900?

Well my friend is getting a laptop for his birthday(im not buying!) so he asked me to look, so far ive found hardly anything as they all seem good so asking for suggestions if possible. Vat isnt added as his dad gets tax free (Guernsey) so £800 without vat is the real budget. The laptop needs to be good enough to run counter strike source and have a cpu good enough to hardly lag, 15"+ screen is a must and battery life isnt a key issue but ideally hes looking for an Ok battery life(more is better).

So anyone got some suggestions for me? Must be brand new also .

Something like a Dell Studio 17. You can get a very well speced version for £900, they look the dogs tanglies & have all the internals to back it up. Drop in a backlit keyboard (off ebay - £15) and they become real eye catchers.

ps; boo hiss in advance of any Mac book suggestions, you pay too much for the badge when you can get a much better value for money (performancerice) with a Dell/similar.
