Possible to mose Windows onto diff HDD?

    Ok....

Looking at going with Win 7 in Oct, but would like to keep my Vista OS active for a few months until I get everything moved / am happy with Win 7.

I do however want my main OS on my WD HDD.

Therefore is it possible to move my current "C" drive windows hdd info onto a spare 500GB HDD that I have, and for it to function as normal?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I cant find a simple answer upon searching...

So you want to move everything from one hard drive to another?

Clone the hard drive (I think it's possible in linux, I'm sure someone else will tell you exactly how to do this) then format the first drive.

Then you'll have an exact replica of your drive, but on another drive, with your first drive formatted reading for installing Win 7.

    Yes you can clone disks.

Alternatively use this spare 500GB disk and load 7 onto it, then you have two physically different disks with OS's on in your machine.

You could also shrink the partition you have currently using the tools in Vista and set 7 up on the space you free up.

Yeah, it's easy - you could use something like the free version of Paragon Drive Backup http://www.paragon-software.com/home/db-express/ or use a Linux utility from a LiveCD- Partimage would be a good one to use and there's a good tutorial here: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/partimage . If the system fails to boot at first try running Bootrec if you have the OS media: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392
