SATA HDD smaller than it should be

hey,

if anyone has been following my threads then i have put the PC together, and it works!!! I will put up a proper review of the parts another time, but at the moment i have small problem.

Basically i bought this 160GB HDD from SCAN:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB

When i formatted the drive, it came up as 130XXXX MB (just over 130GB)

so i have installed win XP + everything ok, but the drive is just under 130GB after registry + windows etc.

Where have my 30 gigs gone

Anyone had experience with SATA drives - especially the barracuda 7200.7 ones?

You need XP Service pack 1 to support drives over 137Gb.

Thanks, i may have looked quite stupid on Monday phoning them up and yelling at them...... i may need to do this anyway as there were a few abnormalities with a few of the products - will explain in more detail later...

remeber that a drive is 7% or so smaller than the drive manufacturer states, due to base10/base2 math conversion

I was always under the impression that XP supported about 4TB or so of storage

But enough people seem to be mentioning SP1, so hmm
