I'll admit that I don't know much about the RAID hardware but I have so far 4 1.5TB drives and will get more, and what I want to do is create a external storage system. But I think at the moment I will do it within my PC case.
So is that possible, to start internally and move the raid over to a enclosure?
I don't know what card to buy but I have looked at the new Adaptec ASR-5445, 8-port (4 internal / 4 external) Unified Serial RAID controller. LINK IS TO 4 - MORE PORT CARD.
That would allow me to move the storage out at a later date but what enclosure would be suitable to do this?
Its a mine field.
This would do as a easy solution but I don't want to be limited by the SATA interface.
Thecus N7700 7-BAY Ultimate tower NAS, 7xSATA HDD, 1x eSATA, Gbit Lan, RAID 0, 1, 5,6,10,JBOD
I guess another thing to ask, how would raid 0 or 1 work over 4 to 6 disks?
Advice required, thanks.
