    Which processor

Looking to speed up a bit on a machine I use for editing uncompressed video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Currently have 8GB Ram, Asus M3A78-VM motherboard and as well as a F1 HDD for the OS, two F1s as RAID 0 as scratch disks for rendering but only a 2.7GHz Dual Core Athlon X2 Black processor.

Will putting a faster processor in there give a noticeable difference to rendering speed and if so which should I go for?

    Thanks as always

    Re: Which processor

A quad core would noticeably speed those apps up.

According to the Asus website the X4 955BE should work fine:

If you are on a budget an X3 720BE should also do the job.

+1 on the 955BE being the best choice.

If on a budget I think I would ask Asus when they will be adding Athlon X4 support, that seems to slaughter the Phenom X3 in video tasks and at lower cost too.

Many thanks both of you, I'll go for one a 955 then. Currently using 8GB Corsair TwinX DDR2 800. Will DDR 1066 make enough of a difference to justify the cost?

    Re: Which processor

Don't forget that Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 can use cuda, so depending on what graphics card you already have it might be better to buy an nvidia card.
(best searching for what cards work best, quadro, prices etc..) instead of a new cpu.
Also, don't bother changing ram to higher speed, you'll notice no difference (it's more for running a higher system bus speed (ie as newer cpus come out or when you overclock).
