    Question on SSD's

If I were to buy an SSD how would I go about moving the OS and games to it from an existing system ? Would it be as simple as a cut and paste of the windows directory, then a quick dive into the bios to change the boot order ? Or is a full wipe and re-install ?

    Re: Question on SSD's

A reinstall would be best, while you could move the partition with say gparted, you would still need to copy the boot block and teach windows the new drive as it would be in the registry not as the C: (boot) drive. It is possible however is quite alot of work. If you have a restore partitio, the utilities to create boot discs, which will then install windows on a new drive.

Thanks for that. I thought that may be the case. I was just hoping that there was some clever thing I hadn't thought of.

    Re: Question on SSD's

It's pretty easy actually. something like Acronis Disk Director will copy the whole partition to a new drive, and re-size is required.

Then, if Windows doesn't boot (as often happens) just stick the disk in and repair the install. that should take a few seconds and then you will be good to go.

I have done this many times already.

    Re: Question on SSD's

Don't forget that on-the-whole, SSDs are smaller than HDDs....so you may need to delete some stuff then defrag and shrink before copying the partition.
