    £100 Upgrade to Play AION

    Hey ,

A friend of mine is looking to spend £100 on his existing PC to bring it up to scratch to play Aion online. At present he has a 2.2ghz AMD Processor (Sorry don't have any more info on this), nVidia 6 series GPU, 1GB RAM (over two 512 sticks), asrock motherboard (he hasn't provided me with enough info on this either).

Anyway, he thinks his main upgrades should be the RAM, GPU and then possibly the CPU at a later date if it would be worth it.

What would you guys recommend he does for his upgrades keeping the £100 budget in mind and that he is looking to play Aion Online when its all up-and-running.

    Thanks,

    A 4770 - £79:

    and a 1Gb stick of ram - £13:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-C...d-CAS-5-5-5-15

    That should do him fine

You can still run dual channel with 1Gb stick and two 512Mb sticks on most motherboards, but I would check the instruction manual to be sure.

With out more details any thing we can sugest is pointless and could be a total waste of money.

e.g. That could be an old slotA athlonXP system which would mean agp and ddr1 which means neather of Zhaoman's sugestions would be compatible.

tell him to download gpuz and cpuz and give you the resaults of cpu, motherboard, ram and graphics card

gd point but a 6 series gpu *should* be pci-e and ddr2... 6 series isn't exactly ancient.

The psu is an important point, although the 4770 is quite power frugal which is why i chose it

6 series came out in agp, the 7series was the last nvidia did in agp
The 6series was the first that also came in pci-e if I remember correctly, at least I don't remember the fx5 series ever being in pci-e

We've both AGP and PCI-E 6600GT's. AGP was more common IMHO.

The HD4770 is much cheaper at Ebuyer BTW:

Re: £100 Upgrade to Play AION

6 series was the crossover series - started in AGP then transferred to PCI-e (iirc). Certainly you could, and still can, buy 6 series in either AGP or PCIe

    A 2.2GHz AMD processor could be *anything* - my guess is it'll be a 754 / 939 / AM2 processor of some description.

If it is PCIe and DDR2 that would suggest AM2 which means he has plenty of options. To meet the specs he'll need at least another 1GB RAM and I'd recommend a 4770 like everyone else has. If he has spare memory slots then a 2GB kit would slot in nicely next to his existing 1GB to give 3GB which should cover the bases. If the motherboard is socket AM2 it'll take any AM2 or AM3 processor (although whether the motherboard supports them is another matter!), so again there's plenty of options available.

Even if it's an older board with DDR and AGP there are options out there though: but without knowing for sure it's dangerous to make definite recommendations...
