Question Getting Shut of Empty Toner Cartridges - What do you do?

As the title really - what do people do?

I'm well aware that inkjet cartridges can be traded in for cash fairly easily, or clubcard points and so on, but these days people seem less interested in toner cartridges. Do you just dump them in the bin, donate them to charity or have you found a company that will pay you for them?

I would put a poll in, but I don't think there are enough people with laser printers to warrant it.

I tend to refill them these days to save the money on buying new toners atm. Working out quite well for now.

Well at work we put the old ones in the box the new ones came in, put the pre-paid postage sticker on the top and send them back to HP.

We did do that until the post office around the corner was closed down.

The company we call in to do printer repairs and servicing (only things more complex than I can fix myself) also does a toner recycling scheme, no money for it, but they give us a great big cardboard box that we fill with toners, when it's full I gvie them a call and they arrange collection.
Almost no hassle for us, costs us nothing and saves them just bing chucked.

One thing I'll mention in regards to refilling toners, more and more often newer models of toner are measured not by the level of toner inside but by an electronic page count on a chip in the cartridge.
So you have to reset the electronic page count chip as well as refill them.

Re: Getting Shut of Empty Toner Cartridges - What do you do?

We send the back to HP. All of our empty toner cartridges are sent back to HP for recycling (taking about alot of empty cartridges). We order new one and we simply put the old one in a pre-paid thingymajiggy and send it back.

Recently started a new scheme to recycle old phones too

I've been using Tesco lately, 100 points I think they give you.

If you search around a bit you can find firms to give you cash, but I've never had the need.
