    Cheapish multifunction inkjet

    Hi

My parents have just upgraded their Duron-based (yes, it was as painful as it sounds) XP box to a new shiny Q8300-based Windows 7 box. Unfortunately their current printer, a Canon MPC200, isn't supported by Vista or W7.

Can anyone recommend a good quality cheapish (ideally sub-£100) all-in-one scanner/printer? They usually print documents/letters with only the occasional photo so would prefer something with relatively cheap black/white printing costs.

    Thanks

    Z

    Re: Cheapish multifunction inkjet

Hi, i have a good all in 1 printer called the 'HP Photosmart C4580'. It costed me under 100 pounds and prints in colour and photocopies in colour. It's good value for money. Not sure if it will work on W7 but i don't know why it shouldn't.

    Good Luck
    Valvo.

    Re: Cheapish multifunction inkjet

I personally don't like all the software that comes with HP printers and think they are more expensive to run.

I'd recommend either Canon or Epson. The Epson SX215 is £50.44 whilst the Canon MP190 is £42.99. I really like the new Canon MP560 but that's probably out of budget at £106. You get what you pay for and the Canon MP560 has duplex printing, wireless and ethernet plus faster and better quality.

    All prices from Amazon.

You are likely to put several hundred pounds worth of ink through whatever printer you buy so my theory is to buy the best you can afford. My other theory is that the more expensive the printer is to buy the cheaper it is to run. Budget printers are horrendous for eating their way through tiny ink cartridges.

I would get a decent HP Photosmart that comes with cartridges available in an XL variety.

i say get a refurbished MP610 of ebay from canon. I have seen them go for £60
The good thing about them was their carts are cheap and last ages.

    Re: Cheapish multifunction inkjet

I've found the HP photosmart range to be quite good, the software is not great, that's why you only install the drivers and let windows handle the print & scan or what ever package you use.

HP ink and toner has gone up quite a bit recently so a Canon or Epson might be a better choise.
Just beware of the ones with the small cartridges, they are useally slim line units and use tiny pressureised cartridges that last no time at all and are hard to find non-manufactor versions.

    Re: Cheapish multifunction inkjet

We have a really cheap Canon Pixma multi-function and it's done everything we could ask of it. Can't remember the model number but it's basically the bottom end model, but works fine with XP and Windows 7.
