media streaming device, currently use Ps3

    Hi.

I currently use a PS3 to stream media from my PC, i use TVersity to do this.

Often i get content can not be played or is incompatible and it often freezes as it is wireless.

I am looking for an alternative streaming method, open to suggestions.

    Thanks

Edit, is a Xbox 360 better at streaming than a PS3? does it offer any advantages?

using a CAT5 cable to the PS3 will help, also setup TVersity properly.

Thanks for the advice. so is the PS3 the "best" streaming device available?

No, that would be an HTPC in my view.

But gigabit ethernet and ps3mediaserver (miles ahead of tversity) are an excellent solution with a PS3. My only gripe is that sometimes large + high bitrate files struggle to play at all. More often than not, if it starts, you'll be okay.

Re: media streaming device, currently use Ps3

HTPC probably would be better, but as said above PS3 is very good especially if you use a wired network.

I've just tried some wireless streaming on my PS3 and funnily enough I can smoothly play almost 720p tv episodes using ps3 media server. Also my PS3 is on the other side of the house so the distance is quite a bit.

Try ps3 media server with wireless and see how that goes. If that does not work to well then you can look into using a wired network.

Dont forget that you'll have difficulty with 50hz content using a HTPC.

    The PS3 doesnt.

Then make sure you try homeplugs if wireless does not work very well.
