    Bit random.....

Not sure if this is the right place to post but i've ordered some new thermal paste for my i7 and my titan fenrir (put a lil too much on last time) and need some cleaning fluid to wipe off the processor and heatsink properly. I've heard that isopropyl alcohol is the best to use. anyone know where I can get this on the high street or is it something i'll have to order online?

I believe boots may sell high % isopropyl alcohol. Nail polish remover also works as long as its a high % there's no added rubbish to it.

If you have any pc hardware shops nearby there's a good chance they may sell articlean or Akasa's TIM remover which were designed specifically for thermal interface material removal.

    This.

Just get a piece of dry kitchen towel and wipe most of it off, and use cotton buds dipped in vodka to get the remaining few stubborn bits off. You don't need to invest in any specialised material to do it. I have Akasa's TIM remover and this method works just as good .

    Re: Bit random.....

I still have bottles of old audio tape head cleaner which works well (being mostly isopropyl alcohol). No idea if it is possible to still buy the stuff though. Mine came from W H Smiths, but that was an awful long time ago.

    Re: Bit random.....

hmmmm, sounds like a bit of a waste of vodka to me! will have a go with it tomorrow n see if i can dig out some cotton buds or try and track some IPA down. Starting to think I should have got some when I was doing my final year chemistry project now, schoolboy error!

Akasa TIM-Clean is fantastic if you can get hold of it locally.
