    What to water-cool?

    hello,

I'm currently planning a new core i7 build (you can probably see I've spammed the forum a lot regarding this lately ). I'm hoping to water-cool it, and would appreciate any advice on what exactly I need to water-cool.

I'm planning on OC'ing my core i7 (920 D0) as much as possible (so the voltage would be around the 1.3-1.4V mark). As this would require a high base clock, no doubt the motherboard (asus rampage ii extreme) will be pushed to the limits too.

I'll be using a TFC 360 radiator (with 6 GELID wing fans), and a Laing D5 pump.

The obvious thing is that I should water-cool my CPU (thinking of a Swiftech apogee GTZ). But should I water cool my "northbridge" (IOH?) too? Especially considering the possibility that I will end up OC'ing the QPI and raising the voltage.

What about the PWM/VRM? Should I worry about these? I do have a decent airflow in my case (Silverstone TJ-09). Would it be necessary to water-cool these modules?

I do plan on overclocking my VGA card, but not by much. I have an internal fan blowing right onto it anyway (one of the many wonderful things about this case ).

    Thanks in advance!

For now I'd just watercool your CPU and monitor the temps, might be fine.

A set of motherboard blocks isn't cheap, especially if they aren't needed as you have good airflow

You can fit a swiftech NB-Max to keep the temps in line if you want, though it will make the CPU a little warmer
