Recommend me a hard disk for Win 7

My Win7 will be arriving soon, and I'm considering upgrading my current hd to something a faster and ideally quieter. An SSD would be the obvious choice but they are too expensive at the moment. My budget is around £60 and preferably the hd should be a 1tb or more.

Currently looking at the new Samsung F3, any good?

If you really want a new 1TB drive then get an F3, someone posted benchmarks on this site somewhere. Seems fast, not much more expensive than F1.

It should be quieter than most 1TB drives (only 2 platters).

I'm not sure if it would be much faster than your current HDD though....

My current hd seems to be getting slower (I've done defrags), also it seems to make a slight grinding noise if I'm doing some large file moving which gives me the impression it may fail soon.

Has it always made a grinding noise or just started?

Check your drive's SMART data. If there's anything wrong it 'might' show up there.

Also, are you sure it really is slowing down? Try running a benchmark of your drive, and compare your results to other people's results from the same model number?
