Hi spec laptop or Macbook pro?

    Hi

I'm looking to get something better than my current netbook. Its great for portability but crap for media play back.

I was thinking of 13" macbook pro and I think they are undeserved as being classed expensive as equivalent pc laptops cost nearly as much. Unless I'm missing something of course. Sony viao seem to have similar specks and decent battery life and build quality but are quite expensive.

Should I wait for ION netbooks I read samsung are bring out an ion netbook but wont be that cheap for a netbook anyway.

I will only be using for movies iplayer and websurfing and a bit of work stuff. As gaming etc is done by my main desktop PC

    Thanks for any advice.

A Macbook would be a very very cool and stylish piece of kit, however quite overpowered for what you want.
An Ion-based netbook with an Atom processor would do the job and be approx half the price.
There is a large proviso though, which is that the Ion graphics processor wouldnt benefit media playback in all scenarios, only certain ones (from what i understand that means you have to use a particular media playing application, not any old one). As for iPlayer and other flash stuff, it seems that Ion is about to become very useful in this regard.
Still however due to the Atom processor being the main CPU, the using experience will be very similar to your current experience, so be prepared for that.
At the end of the day there is no beating having a solid CPU inside for all-round goodness

As for build quality... Macs are generally these days very good quality, especially the newer unibody Pros (from what i read anyway, i've not used one myself).

Have a look at the new generation of 11.6" lappies that are appearing. They generally have single or dual core low power consumption celeron or core 2 processors that are more powerful than the atoms. Dell have the inspiron 11z that might be worth a butchers!
