Could this be used to power a Laing D5 pump?
hello,
I'm aware of the trick to short the two cable cables on a PSU connector to start it up; but would this also do for powering a water cooling pump off the mains?

It would also be useful as a general 240V to 12V adaptor, right?

Yeh, that will do it. Works as a AC-DC adaptor perfectly.
Did it myself, as an example, it can power any 12v/5v device e.g. cold cathodes and fans.

The PSU looks a little different but does exactly the same job.
EDIT: It's worth mentioning the power supply you linked can provide enough power for the D5 pump at 2A 12v.
Re: Could this be used to power a Laing D5 pump?
why would you want to do that when the pc has a power supply ?
Re: Could this be used to power a Laing D5 pump?
For a few reasons.
For me, testing and de-airing my WC setup, this way I could fill the thing, find any leaks, purge the air from the loop and run it for 24h without:
1) Spilling water/coolant all over an expensive PSU
2) Electrocuting myself after doing the above
3) The mess of wires that makes life that little bit more difficult
4) The extra weight to lift and tilt while getting rid of air bubbles
5) Finding a paper clip
Although I would add it's pointless using a power brick in a finished WC rig.

What he said. :p
Plus, this cheap piece of equipment can be very handy if you want to power anything designed for 12V off the mains.

yeh that makes sence :)
i got an old qtec psu i use for that :D
