    i5 750 Stock Cooler Questions

So there are no low profile quiet i5 750 coolers available yet...I want to know how loud the stock fan is, and how high the temps are at full load.

    Many thanks.

    84°C.

Though, the main cooling part of the cooler is about 0.5 in thick.

Thanks, but I was wondering if any people who own an i5 could give me some info on the noise.

Yes, in the 80s sounds reasonable for that cooler and although it's not that loud at idle, at full pelt it is "very annoying".

Noctua do a really nice, relatively low profile cooler and they will supply you with suitable brackets if you email them.

Thanks, but unfortunately that’s too tall, max height im looking for is 78mm, think like Scythe Shuriken territory, shame they dont do a 1156 bracket

Re: i5 750 Stock Cooler Questions

    Well there's the thermalright AXP-140
    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coo...t-axp-140.html

From that review looks like thermalright still have the curved base issue so it'll probably need to be lapped to get it flat.
And you'll need a 140mm fan to go with it and a socket 1156 bracket.

depending on the case you're thinking of putting this into one of the all in one cpu water coolers, eg Corsair h2o, would probably fit, if you can find the space for the 120mm rad & fan

adding a fan will bring it over 78mm I'm sure, plus this cooler costs like £45 minus fan

lapping isn't necessary, you'll gain 1-3C at most, hardly worth the effort for most users.

As for cooler, you can apparently mod a stock Q6600 heatsink using your own nuts and bolts, the Q6600 heatsink is much better with a copper core.

Scythe changed it (not sure when), but Shuriken Rev B now has included bracket for 1156 and 1366. The same for Big Shuriken too.

Re: i5 750 Stock Cooler Questions

I changed my mind at the last minute, I've gone for an X4 945 (95w) instead of the Core i5. I ended up with the original Shuriken, its less noisey according to frostytech.

Re: i5 750 Stock Cooler Questions

Do you know, I have had to deal with the stock cooler while waiting for a bracket for another cooling solution!!
It is not all that loud at normal levels, I am less than 0.5m away and with the side off I am quite content with the noise levels, (Gaming PC)

I would probably be bothered about it if it were a HTPC,

Re: i5 750 Stock Cooler Questions

I know, but this case is going to be sitting on my desk, I have gone all out to find the most efficient, quietest yet powerful system for a £400 budget.

    Virtually silent enermax PSU
    2x Noctua P12 fans
    X4 945 (95w) with a Shuriken cooler
    Asus 785g Mobo
    1.5v DDR3 Kingston HyperX

All in all, a powerful yet energy efficient system but I'm still waiting on the news of an ATI 5770, or else im going to keep my 4770.

Have you ordered the Shuriken yet? Only I'm not so sure it will cool a 95w TDP CPU very well so it would be worth checking up on it.

According to frostytech it will cope, better than stock cooler.

Well if read the review the base on the cooler xbits got was not flat
    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coo...axp-140_3.html
Which is probably why they got slightly dissapointing resaults.
It's an issue that has effected thermalright coolers for a while now and a curve on a cooler base like this can have a major impact on the cooling.
it's why the frosty tech review of the original TRUE was not that good, the curved base on the one they had seriously dropped it down their performance number ranking.
