    Render node PSU?

    Hi,

im thinking of making some render nodes using athlon II x4, 2x2gb ddr2, 80gb hdd and cheap am2+ mobo. Do i need an expensive name brand psu for this or will a cheap one do?

A decent low cost power supply will do. never use a cheap power supply.

no need to when this is so cheap

Antec are fine. The FSP that also often come up are good units

    Re: Render node PSU?

I'm a huge Antec fan, but I've heard some reports that the Basiq models are of a lesser quality than their usual PSUs. Also, the Antec Basiq 350 only has 1 SATA connector so doesn't give much room for expansion.

I think the BeQuiet from ebuyer is probably the best buy: it's £5 less than the Tagan, has more SATA connectors than either of the others, and is 80+ certified (and therefore pretty efficient). Any of those 3 should do the job though To throw another option into the ring, it might be worth looking at the Antec Earthwatts 380 which is about the same price as the Tagan, but with a slightly higher rating, 80+ certification and a PCI-e connector (you could use this to power a GPU for folding )...

    Re: Render node PSU?

Personally I'd go with the Be Quiet; as scaryjim said the Basic is apparently lower quality than the high end Antec units.
