New build with MSI P55 GD65

    Hi,

I'm looking to do a new build however need some suggestions on RAM please. I'm looking at either 2GB or 4GB, since I do have the option to install the 64 bit edition of Win 7.

Below are the components that I have already purchased, and are being planned to purchase.

    Already Purchased

    Coolermaster Elite 330 Case
    MSI P55 GD65

    Planned Purchases

    RAM ?
    Intel i5 CPU
Corsair HX650 or Be Quiet Dark Power Pro PSU
    Samsung F3 1TB SATA HD
NVidida GTX 260 (BFG perhaps) - Any suggestions ?
    Samsung DVDRW
    Floppy / Card Reader

I'm a bit confused on what RAM to get, so am welcome to suggestions you guys may have. I've looked at Corsair etc but opionions on which particular part of the 2 and or 4GB versions to go for would be much appreciated.

I'm not really lookign to do much gaming on the PC since I have a PS3 for that, however some sort of decent mid to high spec PC is what I am aiming at.

My existing PC (in my details to the left) will also be remaining in use.

    Thanks,

    Pav

Re: New build with MSI P55 GD65

There is a Gainward overclocked GTX 260 on Scan's today only page for 110 pounds. You need to use RAM with 1.65v or less with the new i5/7 processors, there is this Kingston 2GB kit for 36 pounds so just buy 2 kits, it will be the cheapest you can get 4GB DDR3 i5/7 compatible RAM for.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Not neccesarily the best option though. 4 Sticks will limit any overclock and add extra stress.

Re: New build with MSI P55 GD65

I have the Gskills 1600MHz Cas7 too (From Novatech), with a GD65 and i5-750, not yet fit everything, I may get around to doing it tonight though

been putting it off since I would have to use the stock cooler until the TRUE bracket is available, just hate receiving hardware without testing them immediately (GD65 received from Scan some weeks ago promo..)
However I forgot that my HAF has an opening at the back which means I wouldn't need to remove the mobo to install the TRUE backplate when it comes available d'oh

+1 for the g.skill, is better value than the kingston posted and the g.skill is at 1600MHz. available at novatech for 73.59 delivered (plus you can get quidco/topcashback to get the price lower). very good kit and a decent set of heatspreaders also

That seems very cheap compared to other places...

Its because the Corsair stuff is generally dearer, even if you take Scans free postage offer into account.

No, if you look at that link, it's also to Corsair RAM, however the same part # at other e-tailers is much more expensive with Scan shown as an example.

Re: New build with MSI P55 GD65

that is really cheap for that memory as when i was looking around before settling on the g.skill you were looking in the region of £70+. Only thing i didn't like about the lower speed memory was the lack of XMP, which if you only want a modest overclock works a treat (i5 750 @ 3.2 with 1600MHz memory). if you can get it at that price though i would be very tempted
