Open the bios on your mobo, Go to the performace settings or the voltage settings (It varies with motherboard brand) and adjust the voltage on the CPU. don't be stupid with it though. only up it by a couple of volts each time. make sure you've got good cooling for your CPU as well, as upting the voltage will increase the heat outage. If you clock too high then your OS should crash out to avoid damage but if it's done too high the your CPU will just blow and then you start crying. You could try using one of those clocking utility programs like easytune. but i would trust them.

    You have been warned!!

    1) Only increase voltage once you've started to get instability from your overclock.

    2) only increase it by .025V at a time, or by .05V at most.

Anyway pcmodder. Go into the bios as previously stated. Find the FSB setting. If you have a 2.4B it will be 133MHz currently. Increase it by, say, 5MHz at a time and then test the computer is stable by running Prime95 for a few minutes each time. I generally find that Prime craps out after a few minutes a long time before the computer gets unstable enough to fail to load windows.

You can carry on after that by raising the CPU voltage etc., but try that first and come back and tell us how you got on. Then I'll help you take things a bit further. Always start slowly though, no point running before you can walk.

    Rich :¬)

Can I just say that I have also tried overclocking, but haven't had much luck with it TBH. I've followed everyone's advise and stuff, but when I run prime95, it always comes up with an error. About a month ago, someone showed me how to change my memory settings to get better result, and although that helped, I still think that prime clocked out at about 12 hours.

I feel that my processor is the only part of my system that isn't as good as the rest, so I'll be watching this thread very closely to see if there's anything I've been doing wrong .

It could be that your RAM is dodgy. What MHz (total and FSB) are you trying and with how many volts?

My XP-M 2500+ needs 1.9V to get to 2.4GHz stable. It can get to 2.0GHz with a lot less volts though (and 2.2GHz only needs 1.85V)... And this is meant to be a poor chip relatively speaking.

WOW - you've got a 2500 to 2.4 GHZ!!!!!! Since mine's a slightly faster chip it should go faster then.

The figues I'm giving you MIGHT be incorrect because it's from memory
    Total - 1.91 GHz
    166 FSB
    Locked multiplier
    1.75V I think

Since you said it was a memory issue, this might help:
A few months ago now, I had a problem with my PC not starting. I suspected it was the memory, so I ran memtest on it, and it came up with errors. Because of this, I brough some more memory of the same size (512 MB), put that in without the old memory in, but it still didn't work. Then I found it could have been the HDD, so I tested it at a friends house, and it was faulty, so I RMAed it, sold the new one to my brother and brought myself a better one .

It COULD be the memory because it DID report errors, but that wasn't the problem.

basically, ajbrun, when u overclock ur cpu, ur overclocking ur ram, and as ram doesnt overclock as well as cpus (i think ocz make sum nice o/c'able ram though) u'll proberly find that it is the ram

Wish I'd have known that a few months ago, when I brought the thing . I'd have got a mobile processor that goes faster at stock than the one I have does at stock.

Back to Pcmodder, I think changing the memory to cpu speed ratio (sorry can't remember what it's called) to 5:4 will help as your memory is way over spec for a 2.4b. That memory can do double the speed you're running it at.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong as I'm no expert but my Geil 3200 is running at 920 fsb or whatever that equates to in memory speed (ddr460?). So Pc4200 must go very fast, assuming it's nice fast Geil modules like mine.
