    Please test your RAID 0 with this....

    Can those with RAID 0 arrays test their speeds with this program http://www.wam77.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/RaptorTest.rar and post what speeds they get. It a small program from Canopus to test whether hard drives are up to video editing speeds.

    Please state 1) which controller you use, 2) how full your drives are (as this effects speed), 3) stripe size, 4) the make and size of drives.

    I should add only give the result for the first time you run it as the cache kicks in for subsequent runs.

    2 SATA Barracuda 80Gig's on a Sil3112a
    60% full partition
    512k stripe (I think!)

    Read 44MB/s
    Write 35MB/s

    I'm not happy - then again my PCI bus is seriously overloaded.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    0) My drives are not raid'd!
    1) Si3112 (nf7-s r2)
    2) Total/Free: 267.16/144.93GB
    C: 152.66/125.82GB
    D: 114.49/19.1GB)
    3) Stripe size? That would be a raid thing then....
    4) Maxtor DMP9 160gb 8mb sata, Maxtor DMP9 120gb 2mb PATA

    Results:
    160gb = R 47mb/s W 54mb/s
    120gb = R 27mb/s W 27mb/s (note lack of free space!)

    So would seem mine are upto video editing speeds (well full quality uncompressed AVI capture in full res(720*568?) from tv card... (yes i have tryed it with very few/no dropped frames)

    Also running it a few times made no difference to speeds over the first time.

    Well, not sure I believe it but

    ICH5R
    2x120GB Seagate barracuda's (the native SATA ones)
    two partitions - OS 8GB (2.8 GB free) Data 215GB (119 Free)

    OS partition 41MB Read, 83MB Write
    Data 66MB Read, 88 MB Write

    edit: Stripe size is 128KB
    Last edited by Rythmic; 08-04-2004 at 12:45 AM. Reason: added stripe size

    Unlike my first response, that is NOT the kind of question I like.

    If you could see me, you would know from my new affordable housing - constructed from the packaging the components arrived in - that the computer was a wee bit on the pricey side.

    Worth it though
