Large mini-itx case with silent fan and no power

The situation I've got at the moment, my Intel atom 330 board fan has failed, this sits inside a SFF case whose fan is really noisy and is powered by an external brick power supply. This machine is used to provide 24x7 home automation services and as a fileserver for backups etc. Currently its shutting down due to a thermal event

At this point, I've decided to revisit all aspects of the system, it seems to me what I need is a larger capacity box, so I can install a raid array alongside the motherboard, as the SFF meant I had loads of usb connected devices filling my desk anyway, so it makes sense to use a larger case.

The noise is an issue - although the only reason I noticed the machine was dead was the silence of my home office.

So does anyone have any recommendations for a large mini-itx compatible case, ideally with no or at least a very cheap power supply. If I end up removing the large power supply from a case as there's no alternative, are there any suppliers of covers to fill the space it will leave in the back of the case.

Finally, any recommendations for a chipset fan for an Intel motherboard, that's quieter than the stock one?

    thanks

    mike

Probably best looking at something like this:

    They arnt that cheap tho.

As for a chipset fan i have a couple of the Scythe 4cm led fans they are quiet but dont push a great deal of air.

pretty much any (m)ATX case should take a mITX board - the mounting holes are compatible (AFAIK, anyway). You could fit a fan in place of the PSU in a standard ATX case to improve airflow

Or, if you've got a ton of cash lying around, you could get one of these; a Travla 19" 1U mITX rackmount case with slimline optical drive bay, 2x2.5" HDD mounting points, 4 x 3.5" Hot swappable SATA bays, 2xPCI riser, IDE CF card reader and a 250W 1U power supply. It's got to be the ultimate mini-server case....
