Recomend me some fans and a 1366 HSF

So I've read the reviews for the most popular HSF's and I have a few in mind. As always though I like to hear what people are using and if they recommend it or not.
For use on a 920 i7 - not overclocked and doubtful it will be for the foreseeable future.

Also I'm a bit out-dated when it comes to fans these days, so all recommendations welcome here.
I'm after 2 * 92mm and 2 * 120mm, plus whatever the HSF needs if it doesn't come with one.

Quietness comes over performance for both the fans and HSF, but if they can go hand in hand I don't mind spending the money

Preference goes to Scan for the parts if possible

    Cheers all

How much are you looking to spend?

Any cooler that did a good job on a quad core should do fine on a i7

Less than £100 for all ideally.

Well there's the Corsair H2O is pricey at £67 but said to be very good and better than a TRUE if you trust the Corsair tests
That wouldn't leave a great deal for fans, however you don't need to spend a massive amount on fans.

eg the sliverstone FN122, doesn't move a great deal of air but is very quiet and only £5 now
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/120mm...bearing-design

For 92mm there the old Arctic Cooling Arctic Fan
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/92mm-...ar-Cooling-Fan

Ideally you're looking for under 1200rpm on 120mm and under 1600rpm on 92mm fans for near slient.

EDIT: what have you got at the moement Agent? any good cooler that can cope with a core2quad should be fine on the i7

I would agree with that, especially if you're not looking to overclock it and aren't really going to be stressing it.

As for the fans, I upgraded my heatsink and case fans around 2 weeks ago and my aim was to get a good compromise between having a quiet case and a cool one at the same time for a resonable amount; a mate recommended the Sharkoon "Golf-Ball" series to me, they do 1000's and 2000's, that is 1000 & 2000 RPM respectively. I went for the 1000's and have to say they do the job - I can barely hear them!

The only thing is, Sharkoon only produce them in 80mm and 120mm but you can purchase them from Scan. If you still need the 92mm's, I would go for the "Noctua NF-B9-1600 Vortex-Control 92mm Quiet Case Fan", also from Scan - they are apparently very good, and would be an excellent alternative to the Sharkoons, however they are expensive, at £12.64 (Inc.VAT) from Scan. The 120mm Sharkoon 1000 "Golf Ball" is £11.49 (Inc.VAT) from Scan, also not cheap, but worth it!

    Basically, I would recommend:
    1 x Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v2 (comes with a fan) @ £18.39
    2 x Sharkoon 1000 "Golf Ball" 120mm Quiet 19 dB(A) Case Fan @ £11.49 each
    2 x Noctua NF-B9-1600 Vortex-Control 92mm Quiet Case Fan @ £12.64 each

The above would be what I would get in your situation, and would only come to around £70, so you could even push for the Noctua equivalents of the Sharkoon 120mm's which are about £16 each from Scan atm!

    Hope this helps -

Re: Recomend me some fans and a 1366 HSF

Please the last thing you should sugest for a quiet cooler on a quad core is the ACf7p, all the rev 2 is is just a multi socket mounting system and a slightly improved fan. (they fixed the PWM failier issue)
It's still good for a dualcore cpu but not for a quad core, they produce too much heat for it to happly cope and that 92mm fan is going to ramp up in speed to compensate which will make it loud.

UNless Sharkoon has majorly upper there quality control and bareing quality, no way are they worth £11.50.
There's been too many people who have had bareing issues a after few months of use.
I know the SE version is better and worth it as Sharkoon used a new and improved bareing, with the addition of the modular cable sustem, for PWM or varying fixed speeds it's a good fan.

For that sort of money I'd look at the Sycthe S-FLEX or the new Thermalright fans (same bareing as the S-FLEX)
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Therm...at-max-1000RPM

Or the old Akasa Ambers still a good fan.

I dont have an existing cooler. I went from a water cooled Core2Duo to an air cooled i7
I'm not going to go down the watercooling route for the moment - I just don't have the time to set it all up.

Thanks for the suggestions so far gents

Re: Recomend me some fans and a 1366 HSF

Well fair enough, but I originally had the ACfP v1 on my Q6600 running @ 3GHz and had no issues with it, idling between 35-40 degrees and never getting higher than the early 50's!!

I suggested that cooler because he isn't looking to OC it and it doesn't sound as though he is going to be majorly stressing it, however I would recommend the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme but I thought it may be slightly OTT for his needs even though an excellent cooler.

I currently have a Scythe Ninja 2 with a Sharkoon 120mm 1000 on my Q6600, which if I'm honest isn't really needed as it's only 0.6GHz over stock, but I wanted the ACfP v1 for a Dual-Core system I built over the summer.

As for the fans, I would still recommend the Sharkoon's, I'm not saying that people haven't suffered from bearing issues with them, but I've only had mine a couple of weeks and so can't really comment. Having said that though, my mate that recommended them to me has had his for at least a year and a half with no problems so far.

More like your cat doesn't want to play with another watercooling loop this year

    Here are the coolers we've used in LGA1366 based systems here at work and are still using them for their performance and noise levels ;

    Noctua NH-U12P SE1366

Titan Fenrir TTC-NK85TZ "HDT" CPU Cooler

if your after better cooling, then the Corsair H50 is the way to go.

    I hope this information helps.

I have heard that the fenrir is a good cooler but can be difficult to fit due to the exposed heat pipes on the base causing a poor contact with the heat spreader.

    +1 H50
    +1 Noctua

I've also heard good things about the Thermolab Baram, but I'm not sure it's available here.
