Nice. It really looks like AMD are getting it together again, after the disasters of 2008.

If they really do release at under $100 they will be incredible value.

Shame that they will probably end up at £100+ thanks to rip-off Britain and the current conversion rate :S

Shame that decent overclocking amd mobos are still fairly expensive, eg £60. I paid £40 for my intel board and thats overclocked brilliantly. You need a decent overclocker if these arent going to be black edition cpus.

I'd recommend an ASUS 760G for ~ £50 - it could even potentially unlock 2 extra cores on Phenom / Athlon X2s...

They will *have* to sell cheaper than the 3-core Phenom IIs, so I think we can look forward with reasonable certainty to prices around £90 for the Phenom II x2, and probably £60ish for the Athlon II X2s.

Interesting to see them doubling the L2 on the Athlon II to make up for the lack of L3...

Re: AMD Phenom II X2 550 and Athlon II X2 250 preview(with benchmarks)

The Phenom II X2 is very competitive when compared to the E7400 and cheaper:

    http://news.firingsquad.com/hardware...250/page11.asp

    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=3572&p=1

In both reviews the processor was overclocked to around 3.7ghz to 3.8ghz too and has very good power consumption figures.

They certainly look quite decent but as usual it depends on how much they will cost TBH.

Here is an Athlon X2 II X2 250 review:

    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=18685&page=1

You can the 65nm X2 7850 for well under £60 so I would assume that the 45nm Athlon II X2 250 should be under £65 once prices settle down.

One of these processors with a 785G based motherboard would be great for a media PC. The 785G has UVD2 unlike the 780G which has UVD.

Looking at the E7200 and the X2 5050e the idle power consumption of the X2 250 should be lower than the X2 5050e and peak power consumption may also no be that much higher:

ZOMG!!! Too many lovely new AMD processors for my poor little brain! 2-core Athlon and Phenom IIs, and energy efficient 3-cores for just over £100!!!

I am definitely waiting for the 785G chipset though - want some of that HD4200 action

Re: AMD Phenom II X2 550 and Athlon II X2 250 preview(with benchmarks)

The Athlon II X2 is around £69 from Scan:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=1020946

The Phenom II X2 is around £80:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-P...MHz-85W-Retail

The Phenom II X2 defintely makes the E7400 and E7500 look overpriced though.

The E6300 for around £68 looks very good value too:
