    Question Good deal or woot?

    In this current climate do you think this is a good deal from Dell? I thought it was at the time of order but the Christmas sales will always be on my mind now.

    Would you deal or no deal?

    Re: Good deal or woot?

    These prices are based on Ebuyer:
    * Win7 Home Premium 64bit - £80
    * 1.5TB 7200rpm HDD - WD Green £85
    * Intel Core i7 860 @ 2.8ghz - £220
    * 6GB DDR3 memory - £115 for Crucial XMS3 1600mhz CL9
    * 1GB Nvidia Geforce GT220 - £50
    * 16X DVD-RW+- and CD-RW combo - £20
    * 19 in 1 Memory card reader - £5
    * 1yr warranty, delivery, reinstall discs etc - None
    * 15month mcafee internet security - None, lots of decent free antivirus such as Avast.
    * standard USB keyboard/mouse - £10

    =Total: £585.

    Which means the case and the mobo of the pc would have to justify the remaining £150.

    I'd say it's not bad if you can't be bothered/don't want to try/don't have the time to build a pc yourself. You could probably do better though if you spent £735 and built a pc.

    Re: Good deal or woot?

    Once you account for the case, mobo and a years warantee then it is a good price. Just remember that dells tend not to be as upgradable as a self built pc though.

    Re: Good deal or woot?

    You could do better IMHO!!The Core i7 860 is a socket 1156 Core i7 so runs its memory in dual channel. Having 6gb of RAM means three sticks so it won't run in dual channel!!

    This is what I would get instead:

    Core i7 860 ~ £217

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Intel...LGA1156-Retail

    8GB DDR3 ~ £128

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166995

    Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 ~ £80

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigab...rboard-LGA1156

    Antec mini-p180 case ~ £63

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    Samsung F3 1TB ~ £58

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1TB-S...-89-ms-NCQ-OEM

    Samsung F3 500GB ~ £36

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/500Gb...-Cache-8ms-OEM

    I would use the 500GB hard disk as a boot drive and the 1TB for storage.

    The 1.5TB drive in the Dell build will probably be slower than a 1TB or 500GB Samsung F3. Having two hard disks is much safer too!!

    Corsair HX450W PSU~ £52

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/450W-...-year-Warranty

    Akasa card reader ~ £10

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    Windows 7 Home Premium ~ £67

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Micro...lease-22-10-09

    HD4830 ~ £57

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...DP512MD3A.html

    SATA DVD writer~ £16

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Sony-...Wx6-SATA-Black

    The total build cost comes to around £804.

    Advantages over the Dell build:

    1.)More RAM and it actually will run in dual channel
    2.)More compact case
    3.)Faster hard drives
    4.)Much faster graphics card
    5.)The build will look much better as the mini-P180 case is built like a little tank!!
