Will i loose everything?

On the verge on new MOBO and CPU, now if and when one does come along will i loose everything i have on my current hard drive becuase i have seen somewhere that you need to reinstall the OS again.

i really dont want to go through the pain of setting up the wireless network again, all my music (over 10GB's of it) and having to re-install programs and games.

Anything i can do or will it be time to say bye bye?

You usually don't have to. The only time you do have to is when your copy of your OS is "locked" to your mobo. E.g. Dells do this so when I put my HDD into my new mobo it didn't work.

There's a simple work around this if you encounter this by calling them up and saying the mobo burnt out or something and you replaced it but like I said you probably won't encounter this problem.

If you have a full retail copy I thought you would have to just revalidate the license??

If you need to re-install the OS again make a data partition on your hard disk and copy over your files to it. Make an OS partition and install the OS on this. This software should do the trick:

Also backup any important stuff onto some DVDs just in case anything goes terribly wrong!!

Or just buy a new hdd - install on tha as the only disk, then when it is working, install the old drive as a secondary and copy the data, or use it as a data drive.

Only reason i dont want to re-install everything is becuase i threw away the OS packaging containing the CD, and lost the disk ( well my dad lost it ) so it looks like im going to have to go back to XP becuase that is still lying around in a draw somewhere.
