45nm Athlon X2 5000+ which is based on Phenom II available in the UK!

I saw this on two forums:

    http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1461484

    http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18068218

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&postcount=30

Basically it seems this X2 5000+ is based on a Phenom II 920 or 940. A few people have unlocked these to quad cores!

    More details:

    http://www.amdzone.com/phpbb3/downlo...59a4e39e395095

    This chip is readily available:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductId=31166

    The chip is 45nm BTW!

I am getting confused by all these cheap AMD chips.

My friend in China said they're already selling these 5000+ at a very small premium which guaranteed unlock to quad core. I was quite tempted to get one but need at least 785G motherboard so unlock. The motherboard I got is 780G. Ended up going for a X4 620.

Re: 45nm Athlon X2 5000+ which is based on Phenom II available in the UK!

I ordered a motherboard that supposedly allows the ACC unlocking trick and then found out about these things.

Bought it as a practice unlocking chip really, something to have a play with. Couldn't resist at less than the price of a tank of petrol. Hey if it doesn't unlock and clock well I have a cheap spare CPU. If it does I have a nice upgrade.

It smacks of intentionality on AMD's part really. Phenom FX5000 with the cores unlocked? The name doesn't sound very accidental.

Re: 45nm Athlon X2 5000+ which is based on Phenom II available in the UK!

Shall try and take a screenshot then

I stupidly ended up with one of these as it was on Scan Today Only offer for just £36. I wanted an old X2 to upgrade an old AM2 board to dual core, and that seemed like a steal of a price. If I had done my homework I would have realised it was not compatible before buying let alone stuffing it in the board.

At the very least I should test that it works as it was intended which means swapping my 955BE for this dual core, so I may as well see what unlock and OC I can manage whilst I am playing

Sadly for my single core system I may have missed the boat on cheap dual core parts (I don't want to buy a CPU off ebay).

Re: 45nm Athlon X2 5000+ which is based on Phenom II available in the UK!

I bought this a few weeks ago, but still havnt been able to unlock it,

Been using an ASUS M3A78-t (it supports ACC)

i've almost given up on it but i know there are somethings i havent tried yet, it still says amd unleashing mode failed.

I might try to use an older bios or increase the voltage (tried upping vcore @ 1.40 and still nothing)

As for overclocking I wouldnt expect too much. On stock cooler mine went to 2.6-2.8 without over doing it (using amd overdrive).

Any thoughts would be greatly appeciated, thanks

Have you got the Phenom II based X2 5000+ or just the 'standard' one ?

After flicking over the thread you listed your CPU is reported as 2 different sockets - both 939 and 940 and AM3 is 941 IIRC - something must be a miss with the combination your using :S

Yeah i was puzzled about it too. I'm not 100% sure but i think i read somewhere that a minority of people have had trouble with cpu-z trying to identify what the hell it is.

Re: 45nm Athlon X2 5000+ which is based on Phenom II available in the UK!

I thought that AM3 CPUs have 1 less pin, that's why they work in AM2/AM2+ sockets but AM2/AM2+ CPUs don't work in AM3 sockets as they will have an extra pin compared to the socket and therefore it won't fit.

So I believe that AM3 does indeed only have 939 "sockets" for the processors whereas AM2/AM2+ has 940. Sounds right to me. I guess it's just confusing as Socket 939 was the previous-previous socket and then they added an extra pin socket to make it socket 940 and now it seems they went backwards haha.

Athlon X2 5400+ for under £50? Not very cheap I admit, but not too bad either...

And if you decide to sell / get rid of the X2 5000+ let me know
