Thermalright True Black 120: Quietest 120mm fan?
Hi.
Need a decent after market cpu cooler for my AMD Phenom II X4 955BE which I plan to overclock to around 3.7GHz+ Therefore suitable cooling performance is required so my cpu doesn't go up in flames. Also would like it to be as quiet as possible while doing so.
Considering a Thermalright True Black 120. What 120mm fan would be best for this? Cheapest deal on both delivered?
The other cpu cooler I was considering was an AKASA AK-967.
It has been mentioned that with certain models of these after market cpu coolers, RAM slots can get covered, therefore cannot be used. My motherboard is a GigaByte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P. I would prefer if all four slots were useable!
Thanks.

I hgave this cooler, i have two yate loons on it, if they were on a fan controller they would be lovely and quiet, rather than what they are now. Only problem with yate loons is that they dont fit with the fan clips.
Re: Thermalright True Black 120: Quietest 120mm fan?
Do you have a link for the Yate Loons plus a suitable fan controller? How have you fitted them if they don't fit with the fan clips? :O_o1:
Thanks.

The clips will not work on closed corner fans, although you can cut the corners out.
here's a simple mod guide and show's you what is ment by closed corner vs open corner

On the cooler&ram clerance issue, depends on cooler and the ram, generally your ok as long as the ram doesn't have tall heat sinks on them.

Something like that to control fans, cheaper the better. I used cable ties daisy chained around, to mount it in a push pull setup. it works well for me, and theres no excessive vibrations. If you are just using a single fan, ignore the fan controller, and set the temperature management to auto on cpu fan controller header. It should be virtually silent, but will cool SO good, so impressed with my true black and yate.

You may have to use slot 2 and 4 on the mobo, i forget how well tall dominator ram fits with the true.

The TRUE is one of the slimmer coolers, but yes you might lose a slot because of that tall ram
