Good question - I'm led to believe the following are required:
1. TRIM is enabled in windows
2. AHCI is enabled in the bios for the controller
3. You have to use a MS driver for the controller
Now where I am:
1. YES
2. No, the intel controller is set to RAID (hosts 3 drives - 2 in raid 0, 1 alone PLUS the SSD drive)
3. No, have intel ICHR drivers installed.
So I'm wondering if my system actually can't do TRIM and hence I *MIGHT* be OK. The intel SSD utility says the drive is fine (inc. SMART data)
Re: Intel X25-M FIRMWARE BRICKS DRIVES DO NOT UPDATE!!
Areca and Adaptec have confirmed they are working on firmware/driver updates to enable TRIM support on their RAID controllers.....not sure about other manufacturers yet but I guess it's only a matter of time.

Update: SSD.. dead. BSOD when booting this morning. Not so lucky!

:(
In reading some other forums, it seems Intel are doing cross-shipping of RMA replacements - seems predominantly US so I don't know if Intel EMEA would do the same. I guess it can't hurt to try and I dare say getting a replacement from Intel might well be quicker than waiting for Satan to skate to work, er, I mean another shipment of drives to land wherever you bought it from.
You might already know but there's some contact info here - http://www.intel.com/support/9089.htm

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I had heard a rumour that it was only affecting those that had installed W7 over an incorrectly aligned SSD, but I guess that puts paid to that theory. Good luck with the RMA.
