Re: Problem with Asus R2E - not posting when 8 pin ATX is connected

    hello,

I got the board today and everything seems to be working OK. I turned it on for about 5 min just to have a look at the BIOS and the temps etc, currently leak testing with plenty of tissue wedged in there.

Incidentally, I'm getting a temperature of 40C on the NB. Is this a little high? It's watercooled with the Swiftech MCWNB max block. CPU looks fine at 24C.

    Thanks man!

i get 40 on north and south with koolance blocks on them ! its not a fast loop and has a 8800gtx as physics to warm things up through a pa160 with 800prm of noctua so its not running at its best on the 2nd loop.

you see plenty of posts with people ****ting it at 80+ with standard cooling

in fact my buttocks clenched tonight when i fired up the old striker extreme without water cooling and watched the NB hit 80 deg C

it was a reminder of how good water cooling can be on these passive chipsets !

glad i still have the chipset fan to put on it, got it down to 60...

It is impressive how much heat is being generated, it's a lot hotter than the CPU.

What I don't understand is, how can this happen when the "NB" on X58 is supposed to run far cooler than previous chipsets where the MCH was on the NB?

Incidentally, when you say 40C under water cooling, do you mean load or idle? My temps were at idle (in BIOS).

Re: Problem with Asus R2E - not posting when 8 pin ATX is connected

with the blocks on there it may jump up a degree or 2, its shifs heat so well and is over engineer enough to stop it climbing. i put down the small increase (after 10 mins or so) the physics card causing it as the water temp will rise the same amount.

im sure a 160mm fan strapped to the pa160 would stop that

the striker extreme never went up at all as the 2nd loop just cooled the nb/sb and mofsets

Re: Problem with Asus R2E - not posting when 8 pin ATX is connected

Hi, I have absolutely exactly the same problem with my asus rampage II extreme. When I connect only the 24 pin connector mobo runs, but after put the 8 pin cpu power (without put on the cpu) the starts for a second and stops. I think the problem is somewhere in one of the transistors but I am not sure and don't want try to repair myself. I will want ASUS give me a new one.
My question is Will the do?

why would you repair something under warranty ?

have you pulled the battery and hit the bios reset a few times as that got mine going again ?

Re: Problem with Asus R2E - not posting when 8 pin ATX is connected

I remove the battery only once, but nothing happen. And after that i send to my friend in UK who bought for me.
But now there is another problem. I register my R2E in asus website on my name. But when I sent to him, he can't send it for warranty, because hi must register on him.
I'm from Bulgaria. And now I can't unregister it.

In that case, you'd have to contact Asus bro, explain what's happened.
