This wednesday isn't going well... Boot problem

Ok, now I got a P45 motherboard and tried to boot up all my existing stuff in it but it kept just turning off and rebooting. I set everything up outside the case as I ordered a new case from Scan and it's due to arrive tomorrow so I thought I might as well set it up outside the case. I "turned on" the motherboard by shorting the power pins.

So then I put it back in my P35 motherboard did exactly the same thing and it repeated the restarting. So I finally decided I'd screw it back into the case and plug in the headers and such and now I still get the same problem. Searched it up on google a bit and took the RAM, GFX card out.

I have narrowed it down to the CPU, PSU and motherboard only and it comes up with the post codes 8.3. to 9.0 to 9.8 to 9.9 as far as I can see.

According to the manual this means:
8.3. - ATX power supply ready
9.0. - AWARDBIOS take over booting job
    9.8. - De-assert ATX power supply
9.9. - Complete power off sequence

Sigh so many problems today, doesn't help that I can't even boot up my own pc...

EDIT: I have tried clearing the BIOS of both boards multiple times.

Gonna try another power supply but it only has a 4 pin connector... Might be a bit risky. Haven't got any other 775 CPUs to try though.

Check whether the heatsking is seated properly. I had this problem before. CPU was overheating and system would reboot/shutdown.

This happened on both boards though :/ The CPU can't heat up that fast either can it?

Re: This wednesday isn't going well... Boot problem

Think I fixed it now, simply used a different cooler. Maybe my current cooler is broken :/ I do pull the wires to get it out of the socket afterall >_> I also took the CPU and blew the CPU and the socket a bit to make sure there wasn't any dust or anything. Phew.

Gonna get a new cooler after I get my new case to see how much room I have.

A modern CPU with a bad thermal connection to the heatsink will heat up almost instantly.

Haha damn, I've even lost track of the day of the week! That's how miserable I was xD

I was using an Akasa 965 before, now using my Arctic Cooling Alpine Pro 7 or something along the lines of that. Surprisingly enough, temperatures are very similar. Both times I have used AC MX2 and put the same amount on.

I really want the Hyper 212 plus but it's never in stock on play.com and I don't wanna folk out another 4.50 (25%) over at amazon >_<

We need to poke Scan to get them into stock
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Coole...lus-CPU-Cooler

Clean off the bottom of your 965 and check to see if any of the heat pipes have ruptured, that would be the obsious cause of it dieing.
