Memory and CPU benchmark sites?

Just a quick question, anyone recommend good benchmark sites / sections of general benchmark reviews for memory?

E.g. same graphics card etc just the brand and timings of memory changes and measure the FPS
and e.g. same graphics card etc just the brand and timings of CPU changes and measure the FPS

Thanks for any help, trying to find "real" performance data rather than just we can do that we do this and clock speed

Kind of thing I am looking to find out is just how small the difference is between
i5 750, i7 860, i7 870, i7 920 and i7 975
and
6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator GT DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600) CAS 7 v PC3-14900 (1866) CAS 7 v PC3-16000 (2000) CAS 8 v OTHER BRANDS of DDR3! :)
(I am not sure what the timings on memory actually mean really, though I know higher clock speed is better, and I have no idea what CAS is)

Pretty please anyone? ;)

Any of your own recommendations would be very welcome too really! I'm pretty clueless about these two other than that at the higher end they aren't too different but jump price a lot more relatively - I don't want to end up just buying the most expensive one for the hell of it then finding out it gives me 1% extra fps or whatever for £300 etc ;)

I haven't built my own PC before, I am looking at this stuff for my planned build which I will probably be getting made for me (and maybe next time doing it myself after I'm more comfortable with understanding the parts (computers is not my job))

Compares most modern CPUs over a good few tests. The gaming results are at bottom.

Have a look at tomshardware.com they have a lot of info on what u need

http://anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=109&p2=108 - i7 975-E seems to be 5x the price of i5, and only gives 2-4fps more on all gaming benchmarks, lol. I knew games were largely GPU limited but I didn't realise it was THAT bad.

It's not THAT bad - you only need a CPU that's fast enough to feed the GPU really - once you hit that level then further improvements don't do anything. Like most things really - there is a rate limiting step so you improve overall performance by improving that step rather than just improving some other component that wasn't limiting you.
