    AMD Build

    Hello all,

Right I have been asked to spec up an AMD based build for £450 - £500 for a friend.

It will be used for mainly gaming but also obviously the internet. Main game seems to be Fallout 3 (+ expansions) and possibly border lands.

Motherboard doesn't have to be too fancy as long as it does its job well, but would like a mobo that has some sort of future proofing, although the way things are advancing at the moment, the future could arrive next week!.

Dont need a case, keyboard, mouse, HD or Optical Drive, although if they can be squeezed into the budget that would be great as they are becoming quite dated.

    Cheers in advance.

    Re: AMD Build

This is what I would get:

    Phenom II X4 955BE ~ £127

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-P...he-125W-Retail

    GA-MA770T-UD3P ~ £68

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/GIGAB...770T-UD3P-MOBO

    4GB DDR3~ £76

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...L9D-4GBRL.html

I would run the RAM at 1333MHZ using lower latencies

    HD5770 1GB ~ £116 to £120

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176938

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/175731

    Corsair VX550W ~ £63

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/550w-...anty-see-specs

If you can get an HX450W instead this would be a cheaper choice.

    Samsung F3 500GB ~ £37

    Re: AMD Build

Ahh forgot to mention, have brand new PSU anyway, Corsair modular jobby as well! Cheer Cat, gives me summet to look at..with the left over money and a little added I might get Windows 7 as at the moment the PC is still on XP.

Why run the ram at lower frequencies and settings so to speak?

    Re: AMD Build

AFAIK running the RAM at 1333mhz using lower latencies gives optimal memory performance with the C2 stepping Phenom II processors.

If you go with a cheaper motherboard it maybe possible to fit in an HD5850 into the budget.

    Re: AMD Build

    Cheers Cat,

The GPU doesnt have t be absolutely amazing, just good enough to run the two games mentioned. And I am sure the HD5770 is more than capable of this.

    Re: AMD Build

The HD5770 is around the speed of an HD4870 so it should be fine. Of course the HD5770 has lower power consumption than an HD4870 and DX11 too.

No,its the older C2 stepping. Only the C3 stepping X4 965BE is out and only CCL seems to be stocking them soon.
