Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
What I need is the following:
- CPU
- GPU
- Motherboard
- Monitor (not more then 24")
- RAM(4GB - 6GB)
- Chassis (preferably with 2-3 fans already installed)
Sorry for whatever spelling errors I have made, English is not that strong of a language for me:P
Any help is met with appreciation and hugs;)
edit: I would like to add that I do not intend to overclock any of the components, as I have never done this before and do not want to ruin my new computer;)
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
Would like to add that my current computer is as follows:
GPU - MSI Geforce 7900gts
CPU - Intel E6400 3ghz dual-core
MB - Asus P5k
Monitor - 10+ year old crt 17" dell something!!
Ram - 600mhz something 4gb ddr2
Chassis - Old box is falling apart
PSU - 750W something that cost me about 180 euro, probably the best thing about the computer.. :P
Please help me pick the best hardware possible for my new computer!! ;)
thanks again in advance.

Can you clarify is your budget £700 sterling or 700 euro?
This is taken from a similar thread:

As for monitor this has received warm praise: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143280
That's £135 which is about 155 euro.
So that's £625 altogether which leaves £75 to get a decent case:

All of the cases above should do the job fine so it's up to personal preference really :)
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
Hey there,
Assuming you dont need a new PSU or Microsoft windows or an aftermarket CPU cooler OR a harddrive... This all adds up to just under £700 from scan.
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BlackEdition - £127.13
Asus M4A785TD-V EVO - £68.87
4GB (2x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3, PC3-12800 - £93.89
1GB XFX HD 5850 - £230.44
Antec Three Hundred - £43.95
22" Neovo H-W22 Widescreen LCD - £126.44
The case only has 2 fans, but loadsa room at add more. I dont know if the screens anygood, im sure somone else will advise you better but I think this is the direction you should be heading assuming you dont need the things I mentioned above in the £700 price range.
EDIT - Damn I suck at this, too slowww :) replace my screen with Zhaomans

I thought I was the one who was gonna be beaten, I spent ages writing that post :D
lol so many links :censored:
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700Euro?
I was talking about Euro;)
But thanks for the setup, it looks nice. I was thinking about something like this:
HIS Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5
Intel Core™ i5 Quad Processor i5-750 2,66GHz, Socket LGA1156, 8MB, Boxed
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3, P55, Socket-1156 4xDDR3, ATX, GbLAN, 4phase power, PCI-Ex(2.0)x16
Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 4GB KIT, CL9, Kit w/two matched DDR3 2GB, 240pin
Cooler Master CM 690 Midi Tower Sort
Samsung 22" Wide Syncmaster T220 or BENQ TFT 23.6'' G2412HD SDUB/ DVI/ HDMI, 1920x1080
Is your setup much better than this one for gaming? I have also been looking into a Geforce GTX 275, but it's abit more expensive, would the performance increase by much, or not?
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
You maybe able to do a cheaper upgrade!! :) You will need to check what model your current PSU is!
According to the CPU compatibility list for the Asus P5K the Q9550 is compatible so this is a good start:
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_I...FT2&templete=2
It is available for around £180:

The Antec 300 is a good case for the price:

I would get an HD5850 for around £200 to £230 to replace your existing graphics card.
Spend the rest on a decent monitor.
Edit!!
Of course you can check the previous suggestions too!! :p
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
That looks perfect mate, the AMD setup offers a bit more value imo because without a PSU CAT's build would come to £425 and plus the £135 monitor the total would be £560 which is 640 euro giving you room for your chassis. :)
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
I see Cat, but I was thinking alittle for the "future" aswell, and as I have understood, the chipset 775 is about to "expire"? So a new 1156 or even a cheap 1366 would be a better choice for any future upgrades? Or am I totally wrong here?
And I see that all you guys/gals are linking to AMD cpu's, any reason for this?
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
It will be easier to upgrade your current setup as will not need to re-install your OS AFAIK.
Also I would definitely get one of the cheaper HD5850 1GB cards as it will last much longer than an HD5770 especially if you intend to get a 24" monitor.
Most games are NOT CPU limited(unless they are very poorly coded) and a decent quad core will last a while.
I would try to fit in a decent 24" monitor into your budget as people tend to keep their monitors much longer than most other bits of their computer. You maybe able to fit in a VA or IPS type screen even!! :) My advice is NOT to skimp on an LCD screen!! Cheap screens have poor viewing angles, ghosting issues and uneven backlights!!
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
having to re-install the OS is no problem, I actually find it quite fun, hehe ;)
And also, my motherboard doesn't have the option to have DDR3 ram, or is there any real perfomance boost with DDR3?

With Core2 there is not much performance difference TBH and DDR3 is blooming expensive ATM!!
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
I don't find the ddr3 ram to be that expensive, i.e I can get this for 89euro's
Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 4GB KIT, CL9, Kit w/two matched DDR3 2GB, 240pin
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
The Samsung T220 is a good screen if reviews are to be believed so it should suit your purposes well.
On the future proofing front, I think CAT's suggestion of a Q9550 is a good idea on paper but at current prices I think a i5 750 + mobo or Phenom + mobo would be a better idea since they are only slightly more expensive.
We suggest the AMD Phenom because motherboards are cheaper for that chip and it performs at similar levels to the i7 chips in games:
http://www.hexus.net/content/item.ph...e=9&search=750
Of course the i5 750 would be an excellent processor and would outperform the Phenom generally, but specifically as a gaming build I think you can save some money and get the same performance from the Phenom.
As for the GPU if you can stretch your budget to the 5850 then go for it but the 5770 is also a very capable GPU that will handle all games at 1680x1050. Gd luck with your build :)
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
4GB of DDR2 was under £40 a few months ago if you want to compare prices and if you can 4GB for under £70 it is quite cheap.
IMHO, a Q9550 and an HD5850 will give you higher framerates in games than an HD5770 and either a Core i5 or a Phenom. Remember that the Q9550 was the second fastest none "Extreme" Core2 Quad processor after the Q9650.
A Q9550,Antec 300 and an HD5850 will set you back not more than £450(around 500 Euro) giving you 200 Euro to spend on a monitor and perhaps even a new hard drive like a Samsung F3.
Re: Could someone help me set up a gaming rig for about 700£?
Well, thanks for all the advice guys/gals, much appreciated!
I am now checking Norwegian online-stores for prices on the stuff you posted Cat, so I guess I will be ordering the AMD setup as soon as I am done writing!
Thanks again!
