Icy Box NAS

I recently bought an Icy Box NAS and iv been trying to set it up, without much luck. Iv installed a 1tb HDD (with all my stuff on it) and iv plugged the box into my O2 provided router (plugged it into one of the ethernet slots). The box lights up & looks like tis doing the trick, but no matter what i try from my computer i can't access it, connect to it or get into the management panel.

Using the CD iv ran the setup, which searches the network for it, but it has been unable to find it.


Can anyone shed any light on where im going wrong here?

Sounds as though it's on the wrong IP range

What is the default IP address of the Icy Box?

Normally you'd plug a device that wasn't working straight into your PC and change the IP of your network card to match that of the device.

Then you'd log in (by typing the device's IP address into a browser window) and change the device to match your chosen IP range.

e.g. My Synology's default IP address was 169.254.0.1 whereas my network was set to use 192.168.1.x. I plugged it directly into a NIC on my PC, changed the NIC's IP to 169.254.0.2 and waited for it to detect the Synology.

Then I logged in (192.254.0.1) and changed the Synology's IP to 192.168.1.100, unplugged it, reset my NIC's IP, plugged the Synology into the router and Robert was my mother's brother.

How would i go about changing the Ip address of the icy box? im guessing you do it through cmd prompt, but i wouldn't know where to start from there.

If you know the current IP, log in to the Icy Box's GUI (from a browser) by typing the IP address.

I'm not familiar with the interface but there's usually "Network settings" or similar

The manual tells me to use http://IB-NAS4220-B and/or 19.2.168.1.100 in order to get to the management panel, but typing that in just brings up ''this web page cannot be displayed''. Iv tried connecting the NAS up to both the router (in one of the 4 Ethernet out slots) and my laptop (windows 7) via the ethernet cable but neither of them work.

What is the default workgroup of the Icy Box and what is the IP address (and workgroup) of your Laptop's NIC?

How do i find those out? When it comes to networking, my knowledge stretches as far as plugging in a router im afraid!

Icy Box workgroup (if it can be changed) will be in the browser GUI

Your laptop's IP > Start > Run > CMD [enter] > ipconfig [enter] > look for the line that reads "IPv4..."

My laptop's Ip is 192.168.1.100. As for the workplace of the icybox, thats my main problem, the fact i cant get into the GUI, as nothings seem to detect the Icybox, including the setup software from the CD.

if your laptop is 192.168.1.100 and the IcyBox defaults to 192.168.1.100 then you are going to get problems, and that will be why punching that IP in your browser isn't doing anything.

You will need to get your router to give a different to your laptop so you don't get a conflict with the IcyBox.

Even with my laptop off though, and using my desktop it wont detect it. Iv tried connecting it to my desktop via Ethernet & to the router and then trying to track it down that way. For the record, my computers IP is 192.168.1.70.

There is an application available on the Raidsonic website to find the NAS on the network.
Otherwise you seem to be using DHCP, so you should be able to see the lease on the DHCP server.

Remove the laptop for now.

Connect an ethernet cable between the Icy Box and the desktop PC.

Type in 192.168.1.100 and let us know what you get.

Is there a reset button on the Icy Box to return it to factory defaults?

Finally, are you using Samsung drives?

Iv managed to get into the icybox GUI now, it is connected to the router and i can access the GUI via windows network & sharing centre. It is listed as a discovered device, that can't be placed on the map.Clicking on it will let me view the GUI, i can slso get into the GUI using the ip address; 192.168.1.68. I have formatted the drive via the icybox GUI, and it is a western digital drive.

Is the network public or private?

(control panel > network and sharing > look under the icons showing your network there'll be a line that says Network (P...) )

It has Network 8 (our network) listed as private.
