    Unhappy speakers help

need a little help here - bit of a n00b when it comes to speakers/sound

just installed a mobo which has onboard c-media CMI9739 6-channel sound, i've attached 2.1 speakers to it & no matter what setting i try, the subwoofer just won't make any significant noise

the mobo came with xgear 3d audio config tool but the only options this gives are 2 channel, 4 channel or 6 channel

no bass with 2 channel, & since the 2 satelites plug into the subwoofer, this has the only jack plug, neither of the other settings are any use cos i'd need to plug different speakers into different jacks

any suggestions to help get my bass back..its rubbish without it
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is

Much of the time onboard 6.1 sound shares diff plugs. Look for the option to switch between 'rear speakers' and 'line in' in the purple plug for eg, look in the volume control (advanced) or control panel. Root around, HTH!

    cheers austin mate

exhausted all software / speaker options now tho! - plugged single jack into each of the 3 sockets & tried every setting, problem is i just got 1 jackplug for the lot (as described above) so not much scope for doing much else config-wise

i've tried using a 2 x phono to 1 x jack adapter for the satellites, plugging this into the "front" socket, then plugging the bass into the "subwoofer" & setting it to 6 channel - sounds like i'm in a cave

found a few more odd effects too - all video files (mpeg, avi etc) play with a h00ge echo!!

getting so bad i'm considering getting the mobo back out & going back to my MSI via400 board

any more suggestions, before i get dismantling?

With a 2.1 system, isn't the bass fed via the single 3.5mm jack plug?

On a 4.1 you only have 2 jack plugs (front left/right and rear left/right) - sub fed via front speakers

On 5.1 you do have a seperate line for the sub ie 3 jack plugs (front left/right, rear left/right, centre speaker/sub).

All I can suggest is turn your sub up, and check all connections.

tbh the mb sounds fine (I've just been playing red faction 2 on my Epox EP-8RGMI, with a 9738 chip and that works fine).

oh btw, turn any 3d effect crap off, that has a tendency to kill your bass too...

i've discovered that - located & killed the 3d nonsense & it sounds slightly less cave-like

shame really cos the board (epox 8rda3+) is fine apart from this
