PC has just "stopped" being overclockable....
Hi Everyone,
Something weird happend today. My pc thats always been stable and mildly overclocked today dediced to reset the bios back to stock speeds.
I went back in and changed the speed back and it wont even post past the memory test. Put it back to stock and it works fine.
The weird thing is that i dont change the memory speed past 800, and when i O/C i reduce the memory back to 800 or as close to, as i dont want to fry it.
Anyway
I have a core2duo thats been quite happy watercooled, 2.4 and OC'd to 3ghz by changing the fsb to 333.
now its decided that it doesnt like that and wont post.
Never changed any voltages, temps never got above 33 deg's and its been perfectly stable.
Not that 600mhz will make much difference, but i want it back :-)
Any ideas?
My board is a Gigabyte GA p35 ds3r,
e6600 2.4 stock and was running happily at 3
2GB OCZ XTC Platinum, and 2gb of Corsair XMS2 (both DDr2-800)
Never fiddled with voltages but everest voltage values are showing
CPU Core 1.18
3.3v @3.34
12v @ 12.39
dimm @ 1.89.
Anyone have any ideas on what i should do, works fine at 2.4...or should i just put up with it - or should i push it harder as its watercooled (LCS Kandalf case)??
Help me Obi Hexus Kinobi - you are my only hope!
Ta!
Re: PC has just "stopped" being overclockable....
My only guess is that when you reset the bios it reset something like speedstep or you know some of those features you are supposed to disable (dont know exact names for gigabyte motherboard)
Otherwise got no explaination.
Re: PC has just "stopped" being overclockable....
Go into your BIOS and try find "USB legacy support" or an option similarly worded to that and disable it. Reboot and go back into your BIOS and try your OC settings again and it should work.
I had a Gigabyte P35-DS4 with an issue just like yours but mine was a bit more serious so I refunded it since it was very new, tried just about everything under the sun, I only came across the USB legacy tip a few months after.

That's a post count reward - you can't thank people until you get past - ooh, something like 25 posts I think (look out for TAKTAK and Funkstar's posts, they both have a linky in their signature :D)
Oh, go on then, here's the link...
