hi all
i,m thinking of getting a lappy and enquiried about the battery and all i got was:
SANYO 6300MAH BATTERY
what does that mean in power or cell?
is it any good?
any explanation would be helpful.
thanks

I don't really understand the hang up some sites have with the number of 'cells' in a laptop battery. After all, it depends on the power rating and size of those cells.
mAh = miliAmp/Hours
This is the power rating. Which means it can supply 1mA for 6300 hours, or 1amp for 6.3 hours, or 6.3Amps for 1 hour..... or any ratio in between that.
I presume you wanted to know how long the battery will last on the laptop? What laptop is it? the manufacturer should list their interpretation of the battery life on their site.
hi
this is the laptop Medion Akoya
thats pretty much what i wanted to know so that means it would be betwee 5-6 hours approx?
thanks
depends entirely on how much power the laptop is drawing
Typical laptop battery is 10.8V, 6300mAh is 68Wh.
Depending on the spec of your laptop, you will be looking at battery life of between 6.8 hours (doable on mine ) to around 2.5 hours on a laptop with regular dual core and discrete graphics card.
It will also be highly dependent on your power profile and usage pattern.

The Amp/hour rate is a measure of the battery's capacity.
However, quoting A/h (or mA/h) on its own is pretty meaningless to be honest - it should be quoted at a specific discharge rate, as it is not a linear function. So 6300mAh at the ten hour rate (the most frequent rate) means that it will provide 630mA for ten hours.
However if it was discharged at 6.3 Amps, you might find that it only lasted 30 minutes, while if you discharged it at 63mA, it might supply that for 200 hours. (Times are only examples, in reality you need to refer to the batter specifications, if they are available)
