    Cheap motherboard options

Hi guys, what's the cheapest mb that supports 45nm c2d processors and has 4 dimm slots? so I can populate it with 4 sticks of 1gb double sided ram.

The MSI P43 Neo-F and BIOSTAR P43-A7 come in at around £50~ but are there cheaper items out there??

This is for an uber budget build for a mate.

    Cheers

    Re: Cheap motherboard options

This will but it sucks compared to the processors you listed, especially as this one only allows a maximum of 4GB of RAM. As it's also a P31/G31 chip it also makes it pale in comparison.

There's an Abit P43 for £40 in the FS section but you need to have over 100 posts to enter.

It seems that those 2 boards are the best you'll be able to get it seems.

Sorry that I couldn't really help.

    Re: Cheap motherboard options

Yes I worked out that certain P31 boards actually come with 4 dimm slots but due to chipset limitations I wouldn't be able to run the 4 sticks of double sided ram.
As most ram is double sided the board would be no more use than another with only 2 slots, I guess thats why most P31/G31 only have 2 slots.

That abit board sound perfect, shame I'm a newbee on this forum. I guess after postage it would end up costing as much as the free delivery shops.

    Cheers

    Re: Cheap motherboard options

Well it's inclusive of delivery, but I dunno where you'll get 100 posts from without spamming haha. Can't really get cheaper than a P43 board nowadays, you could try a P965 board but they're not usually in stock anywhere, you'd have to get it 2nd hand somewhere. However, only some will support 45nm CPUs.

I'd stick with just getting a brand new P43 board as there won't be any hassle.

doh, the Abit IP43 looks ace and a preferred brand to!

Oh well I'm probably best getting new anyway as its not going to be my PC and it sort of needs to be built for the weekend.

    Re: Cheap motherboard options

for 45nm c2d and double sided ram you're looking at the p43, p45, g43, g41 (although most g matx motherboards only take 2 stick of ram)
Or hunt around for a cheap 2nd hand p35 that should work

    Re: Cheap motherboard options

    Nice find! cheers Pob!

Just looked on you project link in your sig, what a coincidence! I'm also doing a bargain bucket build based around an old alienware machine.
It to is going to be painted black as the case is pretty scratched atm lol

Its my mates old P4 7800GTX bases pc and I took on the task of updating the hardware for as little as possible using a combination of my hand me downs and the cheapest gear off the net to complete the build.

Will be using my old 8800GTS 512 card and 4GB of ram, and my back-up e5200 processor.

I will have a good read through your thread, but one thing is for sure your modding looks very serious!

    Cheers
