    Opinions on new laptop?

I was looking for a new laptop.
    Was looking for the following:

-at least core 2 duo cpu, or amd equivalent
    -2gb or 667mhz or 800mhz ram
-gfx card that will play 1080p mkv files
    -15 inches screen at least
-good build quality and long lasting
-hard drive (not too important with the cheap usb's these days), just at least 5400rpm
-dvd-rw (to record data to dvd's)
    -inbuilt wlan (maybe with 802.11n)
    -price of around £350

in terms of OS, i will get the student deal of windows 7 for £30, so the laptop must be compatible with windows 7.

    i found this:
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173882...oduct_overview

Can anyone find any similar deals?

    Re: Opinions on new laptop?

Looks quite nice, but i'd be suspect about the build quality. The white keys will no doubt get very dirty and wear quicker than black ones (Visibily).

Also it doesn't look very low profile, quite a thick laptop? I'd suspect you could do better for £350, if you can try.

Any brand names available for that budget you can look at?

I would look at this notebook:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169123

It has a free upgrade to Windows 7(you may have to pay for postage though so please check) so should only be slightly over your combined budget!

This notebook is also excellent value for money and has an HD4570 graphics card too:

The one with the HD4570 should as it has the UVD2 decoder.

    Re: Opinions on new laptop?

I would check this website for Dell deals:

    http://www.dmxdimension.com/

The links are directly to the Dell website.

    Re: Opinions on new laptop?

price now £468.77 as knocked off the special wireless card.

Still a good price in comparison to the dmxdimension website.

    what you think cat-the-fifth?

    Re: Opinions on new laptop?

The Asus has a better graphics card but the Dell has a better CPU and possibly a better screen too.
I probably would go for the Dell.
