    G33 MATX M.B. 2x 2GB 1066 DDR2

    INTEL E7200 3.5ghz @1.4v

    GTX260 192sp @670mhz

    2x HDD 1x ODD 1x FAN

    110W IDLE
    315W LOAD

I tested load by running Furmark at the same time as Prime95 and decompressing a big file from one HDD to another.

I use a 78% efficient PSU, so my components would use 245W at LOAD with a 100% efficient power source.

35W is about average for a laptop at load.

    Pretty amazing for a desktop!

Would you gents mind adding it to: http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...-readings.html

Would be wicked to have a single detailed thread on this. It's something which interests me greatly

I manually apply the underclock/overclock profiles for my graphics card, due to old games such as quake live running at well over 125fps underclocked. In the list below the gfx card is underclocked unless stated.

    105w - idle
    145w - furmark
    160w - prime95
    175w - linX
    195w - furmark (gfx overclocked)
    230w - furmark & prime95 (gfx overclocked)

Re: Real power draw of a PC, post your results.

I find it funny when people are worried that a 500w PSU wont be enough to power their system.

I know there is a need for a 1000w PSU for all the millions upon millions of people with uber components all overclocked and running 10 HDDs with 20 fans etc...

Re: Real power draw of a PC, post your results.

I just went to maplins and bought one of these meters (actually 2 different ones), they are end of line which is why they are cheap at £12.99. so if you want one of them I suggest you go quickly. They to have another model for £19.99. As it is hard to pick between the two I thought I would list the advantages/disadvantages of each. Its very difficult to pick between the two, even having both advantages and disadvantages, I can't say which is better. The green box one is more actuate and price calculation, but the blue one has VA and Power Factor. Which for the more expert user is very useful.

L61AQ ("Maplin Branded" - Blue box)
    £12.99
    Nearest watt 1W
    Does Power Factor
    Does Volt Amps

    Current .01 Amp
    Volts .1 V
    Frequency .1Hz

KWh 0.01 (Is an elapse function not instantaneous)
    Elapse timer Hours:Minutes
    Does not calculate cost.
    No Hi/Low W reading

N67FU (Nikkai Power - Green Box)
    £19.99
    frequency 1Hz

    Watt 0.1W
    Does NOT do Power Factor
    Does NOT do Volt Amps

    Current .001 A
    Volts 1V
k/Wh 0.001 (Is an elapse function not instantaneous)
    Cost £0.01
    Elapse timer Minute:Second

Some people say adjust for efficiency (80%) and then consider keeping the load within 50 to 75% of whatever PSU's capability. So for example, 300W from the wall, x 80%, 320 WDC... 500W to 550W PSU. But to take into consideration inaccuracy of the Kill-A-Watt and immeasurable transients, I would just suggest double whatever the Kill-A-Watt is reading as a PSU recommendation. So 300W from the wall, 600W PSU. Just to be "safe". You're still not suggesting 1600W PSU's for people with 8800 GT cards (one side of the spectrum) but your not telling people to buy 380W PSU's that will die in a year's time due to stress (other side of the spectrum.)
Basically the Kill-A-Watt meters do not give an accurate rating for efficiency, read the whole thread for details.

I am guess, my Sangoma card and additional hard drive (7200rpm) are making my load so massive! Whats the spec of your Asrock system? Well at least the power draw is less than my monitor Dell 2408WFP measured at 68W.

PSUs can be a big influence on efficiency at low power draw. If you're using less than 20% of the PSU's rated power then you could get a big drop off in efficiency.
I had an under-volted and under-clocked Athlon X2 running at 2Ghz on a 740G motherboard with a 160Gig HDD running at 39W Idle/55Wish load on a 250W PSU and the power draw went up about 5-10W at idle when I swapped in a 350W power supply.

Yeah, and JonnyGuru now performs a low-load test for this reason. Look at this page for an example: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...tory2&reid=163
