Red face Wierd prob with new rebuild PC

I have just done a major upgrade on my PC.
    Part 1:
It started with my xp2200+, abit AT7 et al being transferred from a std case to a new thermaltake vm3000a skull case(with thermaltake butterfly PSU).

When I tried to boot, no display would come up on PC, monitor just said no input signal. After checking everything and trying a diff monitor cable, still nothing would happen.

    Part 2:

I was due for an upgrade so I bought a AMD 64 3000+, Asus K8V mobo, MSI 5900 and 1 gig 3200 corsair ram(but still keeping my 200gig caviar drive, samsung dvd rom and plextor cd writer).

After building everything into the new case, the same thing happened, the monitor would not recognise a signal from the PC. I tried a diff monitor, and ide cables and even transplanted everything into my old case(but with the new PSU) but still no joy.

I know the hard drive is ok as I have tried it in a different PC.

any ideas as I cannot think of anything else it could be, and it's driving me nuts.

Have you tried using a different PSU? If the computer doesn't even beep, it sounds like either the PSU or motherboard, but the motherboard sounds unlikely since its happened twiced, although you might be very unlucky!

When you hit the power button, does absoulutely nothing happen i.e. no fans or beeping?

Mobo seemes to boot up when I hit the power button as all the fans start spinning, the drives start going as well. That's why I didn't think it was the PSU.

So everything's normal except for what is on screen? Have you tried a different graphics card?

tried 2 diff graphics cards. Will have to try diff PSU as that's the only other option.

Have you taken out everything that's not essential e.g. taken out all PCI cards, optical drives?

I got an K8V SE Deluxe , actually the same as the K8V Del accept the Gigabit LAN chip !

If you put the PSU on but NOT the PC is there a green led buring at the under right side of the mobo ? If Yes then you have power if not => PowerSupply is bad !

The green light does come on so PSU must be ok.

I've disconnected everything from the mobo except processor, ram and graphics card and still nothing. I don't hear any beeps when I start PC(I've only just noticed).

Can anyone think of anything else to try?

usually the first thing i would do is reset the CMOS. No display, check cables and connections carefully. Check monitor works on another system. Try different gfx card/try current gfx card in another system.

Portsmouth eh? I'm going to uni there this year *kez changed subject slightly* nice place is that.

Finally found the problem. It's with the Asus K8V board. It has an extra power connector for the motherboard which I had not plugged in. Somthing so simple, but the last thing I looked at.

I have previously built about pcs and they all worked 1st time(as the did not have this extra connector probably.

Moral of the story is READ the motherboard manual, no matter how many pcs you have built, it may save you a lot of time and hassel.
