Question My new motherboard boots up for 5 seconds then restarts and keeps doing it ?

quite weird this, I have a maximus formula III P55 motherboard. Just put my new build together. switch it on and it lights up and all fans in my case come on, 5 seconds later it switches its self off, then keeps doing the exact same thing, switching on for 5 seconds then off.

I did manage to luckily get it to boot to windows by pressing the clear CMOS switch on the back of my case. but when ****ting my PC down via windows it would go back to doing the 5 second boot thing.

Any ideas on how I can get it and keep it stable to boot ?

How is the memory configured? is it set to the default voltage for the board or to the recommended voltage for the RAM? You may need to boot up with just one stick of memory to set the voltage to what is needed and then add the rest of the memory.

I havent had chance yet to set the memory in the bios or anything. I have tried with one stick and it keeps on doing the 5 second thing, so everything is at default

I would be tempted to unplug everything and reseat it just to make sure. What cards do you have installed? Try with just the minimum?

No beeps. I got it to boot up by playing with the CMOS reset thing. then when I shut it down again it kept doing the 5 second thing.

I have arranged a RMA on the board any way. As something doesnt seem right

Just out of curiosity, did you try a BIOS update? The board has been known to have a number of memory compat bugs.
