    Low Level FOrmatting

A quick question, if I used Seagates utility to low level format my uncle's drive to remove the virus, will this utility work on non - seagate drives?

From what I have heard, an less you some how got hold of a proper low level format utility, then its not really a low level format, and I doubt it will work on other drives if you got it from seagate. But other manufacturers offer formating utilities as well

try to get your hands on the program called gwscan, it is possible that you will get it from gateway, it works on all drives and is pretty good.

Be careful with Low Level formats.

With some HDD manafacturers this will invalidate your warranty.

But all HDD tools should work with all HDD's. (Maxtors on Seagates, Seagates on IBM's etc)

The tools you speak of are probably disk zeroing utilities - only the manufacturers can low level format.

Still, a zeroer will sort that virus out!
