    1. Does your printer have WIFI capability?
    2. Does your printer have a network input? Lots of modern ones do.
    3. Have you looked to see if you can get some kind of adapter that will go between your printers USB port and a router network point? I don't know if they exist, but would not be surprised.
    4. What make and model is your printer?

Re: Recommend me a modem router WITH USB for printer?

Almost the same thing really, my old trusty SMC Barracade has died and I need a replacement. Printer is USB laserjet and I'd prefer it on the router rather than another box. We have a network colour laser but I prefer the B&W as running costs are lower (at least toner costs anyway...)

I don't need wireless, thats handled by something else on the Lan, more than 4 ports would be nice but not important.

Will be used with a cable connection so doesn't need ADSL router.

    Anyone any suggestions?

Re: Recommend me a modem router WITH USB for printer?

sorry was a bit vague, my printer is an mp600, it doesnt have wireless or this wouldnt be an issue =p

It only has USB, i dont want to use an adapted becasue thats another plug and thing that draws powers and more cables.

I just want a router with a usb port so i can make my printer sit next to my router and act as a server printer for my wireless computers...with a modem built in for the similar lack of cables reasons

Look at Draytek's offerings designed for the prosumer. The 2820 series should be able to handle the requirement.

Although as I used to work for them, I'm probably biased.

Re: Recommend me a modem router WITH USB for printer?

I too can recommend Draytek having been a user for many years, They are not cheap though, but I think for the features good value. Doesn't sound like you will be using all the features though. Know its not much help but I would say thta you should ensure that your prinetr is compatible with router before you buy - the Belkin ones ahve had some bad reviews on Amazon for lacking compatibility.

An alternative way would be to connect the printer to one of your PCs and have that PC on all the time, acting as printer server.

    http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...ProductID=8106

so thats there most basic one i can see that has wireless , a printer usb port and ADSL modem (i think?), would that be suitable?

What are the security options like on them? My main concerns is: wireless, security, and usb printer port. Thats all i really need.

Now ill be getting an N card for my main pc, my HTPC im building has N in it, and my laptop will use its in built 56meg wireless.

theres also the same modem with VOIP, would i find any use for this?

Yes, thats the one - I doubt that you will find a better self contained modem/router at the price. Standard security options, so wep, wap etc - have a look at the Draytek pages for full details.

    www.draytek.co.uk

Several members here use Draytek products - I use a 2800, I have just fitted a 2820 for someone (the 2820 is the bigger brother of the 2710 - but I doubt you would need the additional features)

Re: Recommend me a modem router WITH USB for printer?

Hmm, can some1 tell me if this router is dual band or not? its ment to be a lot faster i believe?

DIR-855 Xtreme N Duo saw this link sys one...but no built in modem

Anyways is this dual band N worth it? is it a lot faster? I do game, and we watch films but not at the same time, however its feasible some stuff can be downloading at same time, and/or doing some work in the internet at same time some1 is gaming...just dont want to makea mistake, planning to do everything wirelessly i hope
